Warm compress, gentle wipe inner to outer part of the eye. Never share the wash cloth with the other eye. Honestly, it’s probably just a little clogged as she adjusts to the outside world. You can also buy sterile normal saline wipes which are a bit pricey but could help especially if you feel like you need to do something else while waiting for it to resolve. The pcp will prob give you antibiotics regardless of whether she needs them so decide if that’s how you want to rock it before calling. Some moms who want to avoid unnecessary antibiotics even squirt a little breastmilk in the eye a few times a day which works wonders. Some moms aren’t comfortable with this. Congratulations on your new baby!!! Soak up the snuggles ❤️
My daughter had this I just wiped with cold boiled water and it eventually went away, if you are worried it won’t hurt to go to the doctors or even ask your midwife x
Hi I have a 3 month old and same issue, went to the gp and said they can have a blocked tear duct until 12 months, as long as it’s not green or showing any other signs of infection keep cleaning it with warm water and cotton wool x
If you use cotton wool ball that has been damped with cool boiled water, wipe from the inner corner of the eye to the outer. Do this daily until it clears. Note: don’t go over the same area twice with the same cotton wool ball
We had this recently with our baby, we just used cool boiled water to clean it but also used some breast milk too which seemed to clear it up. Our midwife suggested we try it and it did seem to work☺️
If you are breastfeeding that is wonderful stuff for cleaning eyes with some cotton wool balls, I’ve been using it for my little one’s eye and it has cleared up nicely, if not cool boiled water should do the job. I mentioned it to the midwife the other day and yellowish discharge in the eye is very common in newborns apparently. X
I think you're probably right about a clogged tear duct! My LO had the same and I used breastmilk to clear it up! It literally cleared up overnight with a few drops that I put on the inner part of the eye. If you aren't breastfeeding, a clean, warm compress can be used to clean the area & you can do gentle massages from the inner eye down the side of the nose to try to clear the duct! If it's not any better, I'd still call the GP just in case!
