Lucina birth centre

Hey, I am due to give birth on the 31 December and my midwife has suggested I consider the Lucina birth centre as I have a low risk pregnancy. Has anyone tried this? I’m wary as it’s my first baby! Thanks

I'm due in April, and they mentioned it briefly to me. Would love to know how you get on. Unfortunately, I haven't visited or read up on it, if I'm honest. I hope your delivery goes well xx

Hey, I originally went into Lucina, and it was a great experience. The lights could be dimmed, there were star lights on the ceiling, access to a water bath and speaker to play your own music. There was also a comfy big hospital bed and birthing ball available to use. A midwife comes in every 15 minutes to check on you, baby's heartrate, and see how things are going. This really helps to keep things calm during labour. You can have gas and air on Lucina but would have to go to the labour ward for anything else.

I'm following this post for opinions since my due date is December 21st, and I’ve been considering the Lucina Birth Centre as well. I’m hoping there won’t be any complications so I can have the chance to use it. If I do get to experience it, I’ll make sure to share an update here—fingers crossed! 🙌🏻🥰

@Georgiana good luck on your delivery 😊 x

You can go round & have a view. It’s a lovely place 🥰. For a first birth it’s absolutely perfect. Studies show you’re much more likely to have no complications in labour, a quicker and less painful labour in a birth centre compared to labour ward. The midwives are lovely. It’s right next to the Labour ward anyway so if a doctor was needed they would be there right away x

I loved my experience it was almost homely, which helped me feel much more relaxed. I couldn't fault it and you still have experts at hand should you need them, so I honestly worry about it being your first.

@Georgiana goodluck I hope everything goes well ❤️❤️

Thankyou for the positive comments, I will most likely agree to this and will let you know how I get on ❤️ xx

@Kacey Thank youu x Many blessings to your growing family x😊

@Sadia Thank you! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

You can go have a look at the centre prior to your due date just give them a call. I initially started in the birth centre and it was amazing! The bed was comfy, the pool was great and the lights were dimmed was super relaxing. I had gas and air and pethadine in the birth centre. If you want the epidural you can’t get that there. Also if anything changes with your labour you will be moved to the ward straight away which was not fun as then you are packing up again etc and I found that a hassle having to move
