Gestational thrombocytopenia

Anyone else experiencing this? My platelets went from 158 (Sep) to 99 (2/26) to most recently 85 (3/12). I’m 36 weeks on Monday and aware this may impact my ability to get an epidural. If you’ve experienced this, what was your plan? Did you take steroids or any other intervention, if so did it help? Did you talk about an induction with your OB? What was your anesthesia provider’s cut off for an epidural? I’ve been hearing 80-100. If you couldn’t get an epidural, did you get another medication during labor such as Remi Fentanyl or Nitrous and what was your experience? Really trying to avoid an unmedicated birth here.

No experience with this but i hope you get some answers!! Prayers up that your platelets don’t keep dropping! ❤️❤️

I had it with my last pregnancy and I have it again with this one, nothing bad happened, they just make sure it doesn't get so low to the point you can't get an epidural

Mine is 117 VS 156 pre pregnancy. My dr told me they will refuse epidural at around 70 to prevent severe bleeding. Otherwise I should not be concerned and since I had normal levels before pregnancy it’s likely nothing to worry about

Why are you avoiding an unmediated birth ?

@Shemi lol what…. Not everyone’s ~birth plan~ includes pain and we should respect everyone’s choices for how they plan to bring their baby into the world. I have huge Respect for everyone who wants to try for unmedicated but my philosophy is i have absolutely nothing to Prove to anyone, shoot me up with the epidural immediately and let me feel nothing and get my baby here as safely and timely as possible

I had this with my last pregnancy. I was induced at 37 weeks and ended up with an emergency c-section due to failure to progress. I think the cut off for an epidural or spinal block at mine was 70. But mine was 80-90 so it went okay. They didn’t notice my low blood platelets until 37 weeks as with my current pregnancy my platelets are at 100 ( I am 15 weeks atm). They will closely monitor me this time round
