Currently being induced & baby not in right position (back to back/sunny side up!)

Okay so I knew that baby was back to back at my 38w appt, I didn’t think much of it as just assumed that baby would correct his position closer to the time. Yesterday, due to my background of low Papp A and concerns about reduced movements, I went in for induction at 39+4 and had the pessary inserted at midnightish. This morning the midwife said my baby is back to back and now I’m freaking out because it can lead to c section/ increased tearing and I’m a first time mum so it’ll be worse. Anyone have any positive stories or reassurance they can give me? 😭

If you’re up for it, there’s a great podcast episode on the midwives cauldron from June 2024 called ‘OP position in pregnancy labour and birth’. I found it super reassuring :) good luck x

I gave birth back to back vaginally. It’s all totally possible:) she needed a helping hand with vauntouse but al went fine, small 1st degree tear. Good luck !

@Sam thanks I’ve been listening to a few podcasts about positive induction stories which made me feel better and I will certainly look this up too

@Terri that is amazing! Did you do anything in particular to help limit the tearing?

No nothing in particular :) she was my first also. Just follow the midwife’s lead push when they say push and breathe when they say. My second I gave birth 3 weeks ago, she wasn’t back to back and I had much of worse tear than my back to back baby. I was induced with my second, the induction process was fine I gave birth within 10 hours. Second degree tear.

Not back to back, or induction but my boy was breech and I have a really positive c-section story! Mine was booked for an elective because I knew he wasn't turning, but it ended up being an emergency as my little man decided to come early and I was labouring very fast! But I still had such a great experience and would 100% opt for one again even without complications. It was so relaxing and I didn't have to worry about anything. The recovery is obviously harder/longer than if you have an uncomplicated vaginal birth, but if your midwife is advising an increased risk of tearing, then it is worth asking them about the recovery options for both. Whatever happens, you will have a beautiful baby quite soon. So congratulations!

My baby was back to back but I pushed and she wouldn't appear. So I had an emergency csection (that's what they call it) but it was actually very relaxed. No stressful environment or rushing. x

My son was back to back and I needed a bit of assistance with suction, but I managed to push him free after that. But to be clear I had signed paperwork for an emergency c section if assistance didn't work, but it didn't come to that

My baby was also back to back. Definitely get pain relief early (if that’s something that you want) because back labour is rough! I had none and it was not fun. I also had a vaginal birth but was minutes away from forceps or c section, which I had signed paper work for. I did tear badly and also needed to be cut unfortunately. Try to avoid being on your back if you can as this was the position they made me birth in even though I said I wanted to be on all fours but they were worried about her heart rate. I have heard peoples babies can move during active labour too so hopefully your baby does! X

My daughter was back to back (not that anyone knew til she popped out) and I ended up with forceps and episiotomy- but honestly that bit was ok and I had a spinal block. As other have said ask for the epidural Asap if you can/ want to and conserve your energy x
