It can be very high risk to deliver a breech baby naturally. There are not many midwives who have the training and expertise to do so anymore. I’m assuming your midwife does have this if she’s very keen? Are there also plenty of other midwives at your hospital who are trained and skilled in breech delivery so that whoever ends up delivering your baby is able to do so safely?
What I done was I had a plan with my consultant that we would book a c section but if she turned I would just be induced and she turned literally last second and I mean literally last second the surgeon was so confused I had a scan at 8am confirmed still breech was in theater at 9am and during that hour she had turned
@Lianne I’m only 27 weeks so I know there’s plenty of time for baby to still move! But my midwife said it might just be the way I carry babies! So just be prepared for it x
@Rebecca I doubt it! I went into natural labour with my first, ironically on the day I was booked in for a section! But when I arrived at hospital and I was fully dilated, I asked if I should try naturally as I’ve got this far, but they all said no 🤣 there was no breech experienced midwife’s! This is what worries me! Xx
@Kelly oh wow! My first never moved 🤣 she was always breech in every appointment, obviously just comfy like that 😅 She was born with her feet by her head so I guess she probably just couldn’t naturally turn around in that position 🤷🏼♀️ x
@Lucy I personally would not be willing to attempt natural birth then if they don't have the expertise needed for it but it is such a personal decision. It's ultimately up to you but I guess that's something very important to consider xx
Also, what are your midwives motivations? Like why is she so keen for you to have a natural delivery? Particularly if she's not trained in doing breech deliveries x
I had a c-section as my baby was also breech. When baby was still breech at 36 weeks we discussed birth options and I was given the choice of a vaginal delivery but I felt like it was a really risky option. If my next baby is breech I’d personally choose a c-section again.
I had a really positive vaginal breech birth and it was my first baby. You do want a midwife that’s confident delivering breech but the risks are comparable to those for any other type of birth - it’s just a variation of normal. Check out Breech Birth UK facebook group for lots of helpful advice and stories, as well as their website (my story is on there if you search Chloe Reid if you’re interested!). Good luck x
I did. He was undiagnosed breech, wasn’t discovered until I was in active labour. I have birth vaginally with gas and air. He needed some help breathing at first but was breathing on his own after 10 minutes. I’m pregnant with my second now (31 weeks) and they’re currently breech. Midwife has also said it could be the way I carry them. I’m wanting to have a vaginal birth again if this baby stays breech.
How far are you? Mine was breech until 34/35 weeks I did all kinds of things
