Eye infection

My LO has got an eye infection. Called gp and the doctor advised it might be viral infection and to clean her eyes with cold water. Its been 3 days she is having discharge from her eyes when she wakes up from sleep. Is there anything I can do to help her or just wait until it clears up on its own. Any advice will be really helpful.

Optrex eye drops are fantastic, you can get it at any pharmacy over the counter but they say for under 2s you should get a prescription. Personally would go back to the GP and just say it’s not clearing up and ask for the drops (they also have an ointment that’s easier to apply but GPs are more stingy on prescribing that one for some reason)

My boy had this and also has a blocked tear duct so loads of gunk most of the time in his eye - GP said to clean it 4 times a day with cooled boiled water on a cotton pad so it's sterilised. I also use a bit of vaseline on the skin at the corner of his eye to stop the gunk irritating his skin. I'd also say take her back to the GP and ask for drops or ointment, we were given chloramphenicol which helped to clear the infection.

Thanks both.. will definitely check with the gp again tomorrow morning.

Hope your LO’s eye is getting better, my LO has had the same this week in both eyes with a terrible cold, 5 days of cleaning multiple times a day with cool boiled water and it is finely nearly cleared up 🤞.

@Michelle My LO is better now. Gp prescribed her with Chloramphenicol eye drops and it cleared up within a day of using it. Hope your LO is better now.
