How do you have time to read with kids?

I really can’t get into audio books, it’s so hard for me to pay attention and it just becomes some background noise keeping me company but I have no clue what’s happening. I think I can read like five pages with my kids are awake before they start looking for my attention or I have to cook or clean something.

Mostly naptime or after he goes to bed. I tried once during his independent play time, but then I fell behind on house work

I’m still reading the same book from when I was pregnant 9 months ago 😭

I have a kindle and the kindle app on my phone. When I sit with them in their room while they fall asleep I read my book after I read them bedtime stories.

Definitely when they are asleep. And staying up wayyy too late 😆

The only audiobooks I’ve been able to do have been the graphic audio because it’s not the same person reading for every character. Besides that I read when my sons napping or late at night when I should be sleeping

I do parenting books as audio books in the car or on walks with dogs. Actual books after kids are asleep, or kindle while I rock my 8 month old to sleep

I read when they’re playing, or naping but I prefer at night when they sleep for the night

@Brianna 😅 I love graphic audios. I couldn’t wait for Onyx Storm to be made one and I’ve restarted it like 5 times now because idk what the heck is happening.

I squeeze in reading whenever I can—during naps, after they’re in bed past 8:30 PM, or in little gaps when they’re playing on their own. Kindle makes it so much easier, but I still love physical books, so I switch between the two. I miss reading physical books, but Kindle is just more convenient

I know it's cliche but not scrolling, scrolling like my reading goals

I haven’t really read a book in while. I hope to start it back up soon, though

I have a 4 and 5 year old and a newborn and idk I feel like I have a lot of time to read 😅 but I’m a SAHM and my older two entertain eachother in the afternoons if I want to read and then at night after bedtime I read holding my newborn cuz I use the kindle and have it set up with a little device and a remote to turn the page so I don’t even have to hold it 😂 lazy girl setup

I could have written this myself. I found a book I like, and occasionally when they’re both napping I’ll try to go outside and sit in the sun and read. I’ve only gotten about 100 pages in 3-4 weeks, but I feel better with that than zero pages.. it’s so hard to find the time but don’t pressure yourself to finish a book quickly

@Calynn it’s so hard to stay off my phone. My brain is fried at night so it’s become a bad habit to turn it off.

@Autumn lol! I love that set up. I’m a SAHM too but my oldest isn’t even 3 and my baby is 9 months. Seems like there’s always something else that needs doing!

@Rachel that sounds lovely! The last time I actually had time to get fully immersed into a book was last march. It’s been a few pages here and there since I had my second baby.

@Sarah 🎀 oh yeah that’s a different vibe for sure haha my newborn is sleeping around the clock and my older two really don’t need much active supervision so I’m soaking up all the reading I can while in this phase 😅

@Autumn I try to read in front of my toddler to set a good example but she just likes to smack the book out of my hands or begs me to read it to her…. 😅

Once my little ones is in bed for the night I sit back and read a book or listen to an audio book. I put music on and light a candle.

I try to schedule at least 30 minutes or sometimes longer at night usually when the kids are asleep or before they wake up.

I'm definitely reading at bedtime or when my youngest is taking a nap.

I don't have time for physical books. I listen to audio books in the car, and after I put my daughter down while I clean up and get ready for bed. I have to wear headphones to concentrate on them.

Audiobooks work best for me when my hands are busy but my brain is not. Like when I'm doing household tasks or at work (I'm a custodian) I haven't read a physical book in years

all naps are contact naps for my baby so i read during naps and sometimes when he’s in bed for the night !

I just gave up till the kids get older. I can’t find the time and then when they are asleep I’m too tired to want to read or do anything else

Quiet time for everyone is mandatory 😭. Thats time to be alone by yourself & do your thing. Hard to implement at first & they occasionally try to yap to me but my boundaries are strong & time alone is good for us all.

I’ve had to do audiobooks, not just due to time and kids, but if I sit down and try to read a book, I fall asleep. It can be the best book ever and it still happens. I even yawn when reading to my kids. 😆

Audiobooks and having the kindle app on my phone. I squeeze in a chapter or two every night on my phone and during the day I listen to audiobooks while I’m cleaning, cooking or doing laundry.
