Codeine for pain

Is anyone taking codeine for pain? My consultant midwife told me she could give me some as I can barely walk and I said no but starting to have regrets!!

I'm on cocodomol for PGP and sciatica. I try not to take it if I can help it but the pains are so unbearable sometimes x

@Bianca what strength do you have? Do you find it helps when you do take it?

I have it for pelvic pain too, I have 30mg as I was taking that for pelvic pain prior to pregnancy but gp was happy for me to continue taking it as needed. Consultant has also been happy for me to continue taking it. I try not to take it unless really painful or if the pain is impacting my sleep but I try to find a balance cos altho I feel guilty for taking it, at the same time I don’t think the stress of being in so much pain is good for my baby either. I usually just take one with a plain paracetamol if I need more, rather than taking 60mg total. It definitely helps, doesn’t take the pain away totally but it stops me being a crying heap and helps me be more mobile

I’m on it for PGP. It helps ease but not completely remove the pain. Having to be careful when I take it though as I’m trying to collect colostrum and you’re not supposed to feed it to baby as the codiene can pass to baby through it and cause problems. So I’m taking it at night only now so that by following lunchtime I can express a little colostrum if I want as 15hours has passed.

Take the codeine! If you’re in pain you’ll be walking differently and putting strain on different muscles and joints. This will cause more pain and potentially pain that continues post birth! You might only need them for a few days but the longer you leave it, the worse it will get

I’ve been prescribed it for my PGP/sciatica. Take it if you feel you need it. My doctor just advised to use it sparingly where possible which I’ve been doing.
