Cervical dilation check

UK mummies, do the hospital check your cervix for dilation? Currently 38+2 and haven’t been checked once. Was on the ball last night for a hour now I have persistent vaginal pain😩 hopefully labour is on the way but I don’t know!!

I was in for pains the other week and they did a cervix check on me too make sure it wasn't open. So I'm sure if u go in they will check after monitoring you xx

@Julia yeah I think i might go and get checked if it don’t go by the end of the day!x

You don’t have to be checked/ it’s not a mandatory requirement to check dilation. I personally will be declining any checks unless medically required

I’m aware it’s not mandatory. I personally would just like to know when or if they check to how far along I am/ if I have dialated at all because of the pain I’ve been feeling

I was only offered a check after my contractions started with my first, and been told they would do a check this time if again contraction or waters broke.

All hospital trusts are different. Ours don’t offer you any kind of sweep/check with your first until you reach 40 weeks. Then with subsequent they first offer at 38 weeks. However I don’t know what their policy is if you ask. I found my labour progressed better when I turned down checks because they don’t really tell you anything, they add discomfort which doesn’t help you relax/progress and they increase infection risk. HOWEVER it’s obviously entirely personal preference. Would say from experience vaginal pain is weight of baby being heads down in your pelvis rather than any indication of labour being imminent. Of course baby being heads down is one of the factors that will help dilation along though 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s so frustrating not knowing when it’s coming isn’t it 🙈

@Incognito did you get checked? How ar3 things x
