Nausea and sickness affecting mental heath

Hi all! I’m 9 weeks with our first baby and have been incredibly nauseous with the occasional vomiting since the end of week 4. I feel like it started to take a toll on my mental health and not sure what I can do to make it better. GP prescribed cyclazine but makes me so drowsy and doesn’t really work as nausea comes back within hours of taking it. Any advice/encouragement would be much appreciated.

Hi :) this sounds like potential HG. Treatment exists but it may take a while to find the right one. I had to try about 10 different medications before one finally worked for me. I really recommend checking out the below, it has lots of resources. https://pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/get-help/what-is-hyperemesis-gravidarum/

I totally feel you Monica, it’s such a difficult time. I was so miserable with weeks of nausea and it did take a toll on my mental health as I never felt ok and everything just went on like normal, including all the work obligations etc. Cyclizine didn’t work for me, only after 5 weeks of nausea doctor prescribed Prochlorperazine which finally helped. Only for a week or so though then it stopped but a day later the nausea started to ease by itself. I am 11 weeks now and it’s at a much lower level. Sending you lots of positivity, hopefully you’ll find something that can relieve your nausea 🤞

I was exactly the same. Keep going back to your GP and push for alternatives xxx

Go back to your doctor and try a different medication maybe, don’t suffer in silence x
