I have had that issue on an off since giving birth 7 months ago. Not with my first child though. Used stool softener for a while and then brought it up to my gp. I am waiting for a colonoscopy next month just to check. In the meantime try to soften your stools by eating lots of fibers (salad, fresh fruit) and other foods good for the tummy and of course plenty of water during the day but also at night if you are breastfeeding. These things helped a lot. It’s still painful to pass the stools but I am no longer bleeding.
@Lottie thank you for the advice lovely! I’ll be sure to mention it to the gp, I’m hoping it’s nothing bad
@Alessandra really, if you don’t mind me asking what is the procedure when you go to the gp about it? I’m just nervous of the unknown I think😩 it’s so painful to pass the stools and when I see a lot of blood in the toilet then on tissue it really freaks me out
Just explain this as you told me and ask for a referral to a gastroenterologist. The first few times they just suggested various things like stool softener and fruits (pears, kiwi, prunes…). Then when I went back after few more months they suggested an examination. I also used glycerin suppositories to soften stools and avoid bleeding and excessive straining. But what’s helped now was a what I mentioned before, fiber diet and looooots of water, also nighttime. It’s still painful but no more bleeding.
Hey mama The post birth poos are the most painful!! Why don't people tell us about this lol. It's normal for it to be difficult to pass as your organs are readjusting back and things really slow down. I had similar issue to you where it was incredibly painful and would see small streaks of blood on the tissue (didn't bleed like you do but also I didn't have stitches so not exactly the same) but I went to the GP about it. She had a little look and saw that I had an anal fissure so she gave me laxative sachet and advised me to get lidocaine cream which you apply before going to the toilet...this numbs your area and so when your poo passes you don't feel anything! It helped loads. Just make sure your poos soft and things will heal xxx
Definitely see a GP and ask to be referred to a women’s pelvic health specialist if you can. It could be the stitching or it could be pelvic floor linked. Up your water amounts and eat fibrous foods to help the poo pass easily as maybe you have some internal haemorrhoids too that are bleeding.
