I think my due date is wrong

I’m officially 40 weeks today with my third baby according to the dating scans from my midwife. However, I know the exact conception date, and that places me a whole two weeks later than this. I know there are other factors at play, like foetal size (he’s always measured on the small side for the dating scan which adds fuel to my fire) and ovulation dates, but I really want a home birth and definitely don’t want to be induced like I was with my first, and fear I may have a stressful time kn my hands having to convince midwives etc. if he doesn’t arrive ‘on time’. Anyone else getting stressed about due dates? Or in a similar conundrum?

Totally understand this! Trust your body 🙏🏻 everything else is estimates and not 100% accurate. I’m 40 weeks this week and don’t feel it’s correct as I also know the date of conception too and pretty sure it would mean I’m due 2 weeks after my due date. I’ve also wondered why my symptoms have been less mild at this point too - don’t feel like I’m about to reach due date at all. Just remember you get to decide and give informed consent whether you accept an induction or not. I will not be accepting anything easily -I want to do things naturally. If my health worsens and the babies does then of course i would accept but ill be waiting until 42 weeks otherwise. My mum had me at 42 weeks & I turned out ok 😅 I also like the affirmation “my baby will come when my baby is ready”

Hey!!! They did this with me too- they were only a week off but talks about induction and small baby were constant. They can be up to 3 weeks off the due date mark because every woman ovulates differently. Remember an induction is a choice, and you CAN decline. They suggest inductions so that they can control the situation and so they can plan but this is your body and your labour so choose what’s best for you! I had my home birth and it was perfect- you’ve got this mumma xx

What Anusha said!! Stick to your guns. You get to choose your care plan. Not them. If you want baby at home plan for that and refuse induction if you need to. They can’t “make” you do anything you refuse. They can make their recommendations but just question the hell out of them when they do and ultimately listen to your instinct when you’re deciding what to do xxx

I have been wondering the same as according to the date of my last menstrual period I’d be due about a week later than the due date given to me at my dating scan and I don’t have any signs that he will be here any time soon 🤔

@Anusha thanks my dear. When I voiced my concerns, my midwife was super supportive, so feeling a lot better. Still no babe, but just taking it day by day and trying not to get anxious. So glad you got the home birth you were hoping for. ❤️

@Ceri exactly, realising you’re ultimately in control of your care plan is a big positive mental shift. How are you getting on? Still no babe here, but most evenings I’m sure it’s going to happen. Good luck! Xx

@Nicola yes we are in charge 😀🙏🏻 I’m doing lots of positive meditations and hypnobirthing course - it’s really empowering! I’m 40+1 now, no signs at all. I am due to see the midwife on Monday who has offered me a sweep - still unsure whether to have it and keep changing my mind but I’m sure when the day comes I’ll make a decision that feels right for me. How are you getting on?

@Ceri Stilllll pregnant. Coming to terms with the fact that I might be, forever 😂 Once you get into the weeds of the ‘due date’ discourse, you realise how arbitrary and inaccurate the whole thing is. Also the sheer amount of ladies who have been pressured into induction only to have had a baby that was obviously not ready to come yet. The amount of anecdotes I’ve heard this week about babies being covered in vernix and being considered small after being induced at 42 weeks (so probably not full term) just makes me feel I should let the little guy bake for as long as he can. I’ve declined a sweep, but may consider if we get over 42 weeks. By my calculations I won’t even technically be overdue then! In the mean time, bucket loads of raspberry leaf tea, a tonne of dates and some nifty moves on the birthing ball. Hope you’re doing well and not too uncomfortable xx

@Nicola keep trusting the process - your body & baby knows 🙏🏻 My waters have just gone this morning & mucus plug 🥹

@Ceri oh wow! Exciting. Wishing you all the best ✨👏🏻
