Elective C-section

Hi girls. I am 17wks 3 days and I am thinking about my birthing plan. I am absolutely petrified of any complications going wrong in a natural birth and I’m one of those people who need to know what’s going on and when it’s going to happen. I am strongly thinking about having an elective C-section. What wre your experiences with elective sections? I’ve heard very good things about them.

I’ve had two and personally loved them, I’ll have my third the same way. Very calm, controlled, happy. No trauma. I had skin to skin, delayed cord clamping, music on, camera rolling, dad cut the cord. The staff had us both relaxed and laughing, they looked after us all. I was up and walking that afternoon, showering alone and the next morning even walking to the coffee room with baby. I took public transport home the first time (didn’t have a car then) and was at Costco on day 5. Pain wise, nothing worse than a bad period but I had good pain management. Get up and keep moving, the more you are mobile the easier and fastest your recovery. Big knickers from M&S are great as they are higher up than the wound. Take stool softener to avoid discomfort in the bathroom due to the strong meds. Set alarms for the meds. Get good food in the house ☺️

Happy to answer any questions, share photos etc if it helps xx

I absolutely loved my c section experience, so calm and relaxed. The only thing I didn’t like was that because I’m a bigger lady, I had the pico device which made going to the toilet difficult as I had to hold it in my hand and the shoulder pain from the gas they pump in you. I also had issues with mobility for a couple weeks which felt like forever but all in all it was really pleasant

@Sarah this honestly is like music to my ears. Thank you so much. I am hearing so many great things about electives so I definitely think this is the right choice for me and baby x

I've had 2 vaginal births and 1 c section - I'm due another c section next week. I absolutely loved mine - it was so calm and relaxing - yes its longer to recover but its not as bad as u think, it was my favourite labour experience out of the 3 of them 🩷🩵xxx

So i had to have an emergency section with my boy, and obviously that wasn't ideal! And i've been told that I could try for a vaginal birth if I have another baby, but I'm honestly thinking I would simply do a planned section because I know what i'm getting into now, and I can plan everything! Contrary to the previous comment, my recovery was an absolute bitch 😂 but i'm pretty sure that's only because it wasn't planned and I hadn't known to make my life easier, so if you're adamant you want a section I would just do a bunch of research so you know exactly how to make yourself the most comfortable during recovery! I will say, I could walk until the evening after mine, but that may be because my boy was born at 9pm and I had a spinal so my lower body was out of service until like lunchtime the day after, and when I did walk I simply couldn't stand up straight and was walking at snail's pace. The few days after were definitely hard with mobility, but once I gave myself a few days

of rest, I was walking to our little local shop and while it was slow and a bit painful, I made it there and back with my partner and the pram! My boy was born on Friday, and by the Saturday I was able to travel 35 minutes from the house to go see friends and family for the first time since birth! Sorry for the long reply, I just get so into it when i talk about sections 😂 x

I had an elective and would thorough recommend! I do think I pulled an internal stitch as I was definitely doing too much & ended up In quite a lot of pain but that was entirely my fault. People said to me the difference after 2 weeks was crazy and I couldn’t believe it would be but honestly! Two weeks in and I was in no pain at all!

I had an emergency c-section so my experience might be a bit different but it is a tough recovery. I think you do have to remember it is a big surgery. The pain is tolerable with the proper medications, if I forgot to take it during the time they told me, I was in a lot of pain. It is kinda scary to look at as well but I mean, either way it isn’t really a pretty site whether it be vaginal or c-section. But for me, showers and everything else was scary, although that could just be a me thing. I’d say look into the pros and cons of both before making any decisions. Either way YOU GOT THIS!
