Glucose test

Has anyone failed the glucose test by 1 point? What did your OB do? Did you have to take the 3 hour test, did you pass it? I'm prone to passing out while I'm pregnant, so fasting +4 blood draws makes me soooooo nervous. I had my results on MyChart on Thursday morning but my doctor hasn't contacted me about what I need to do, I guess I will call them Monday if I haven't heard anything but wanted to ask for others' experiences.

Yep I got it bang on the line, it was the first fasting blood test that i failed though so they diagnosed with GD straight away there wasn’t any point in the 3 hour test, I guess it depends which of the original tests you failed on 🙂

It wasn’t 1 point it was a few but I had to take the 3hr. It sucked but I took a book and downloaded some episodes of my show and treated it like I was on a 3hr plane ride lol

@Megan mine wasn't a fasting test, so hopefully it isn't an automatic fail.

@Lexi I'm mostly worried about passing out again, I can keep myself busy, I just don't want to pass out. Especially since I'm not going to be able to have anyone there with me, my husband is going to have to take my son to the park so he doesn't pitch a complete fit in the doctors office. Did you pass the three hour test?

Yes I did, but I do know if you’re prone to passing out they will not leave you alone. They’ll either have a nurse or MA check in on you periodically and if you do pass out, they will probably cancel the test and either rule it as GD to be safe or try to reschedule it.

I failed my glucose test while expecting my fourth child, by only one point, so I had to take the three hour test. I ended up passing, but my sugar levels dropped, and I almost fainted.

Yep failed by one point and had to do the 3 hour test and ended up failing it too 😔 but my doctor did finger sticks for all of the tests so ask if they can do those instead of blood draws!

I failed my first test by 1 point and they said it doesn’t matter how much you fail by if you fail then it’s a GD diagnosis. I got to redo the test because I’d actually been in hospital with flu and my blood tests were all over the place and I passed second time around. They may let you retake the test depending on your NHS trust (or hospital if you’re not UK based) x

@Gemma this was the one hour test and it was non fasting so I don't think it would be an automatic diagnosis. They normally have us take the 3 hour test if we fail the 1 hour.

@Brooke I will have to ask them about that, thank you 😊

Ahhh hopefully! My hospital automatically put you in for the 3 hour fasting test, they don’t routinely offer the 1 hour test. Hoping it’s good news for you. The positive is it’s nice to get the extra scans if you get the diagnosis but yeah the thought of all the finger pricking and massive diet changes terrified me. Fingers crossed you get the call soon with an update!

@Kristy oh wow 😬 this is what I'm scared of. I passed out at 14 weeks pregnant and they never did figure out why, they said exertion but I didn't even do anything. Then with my first I passed out in the doctor's office while getting a biopsy of a mole on my arm at 24 weeks and they said they thought my blood sugar dropped. Both times when I came to, eating made me feel better, so I was wondering if my blood sugar dropped both times. I have also had my A1C tested earlier in this pregnancy and the numbers were so low my doctor said I was nowhere near prediabetic and she doubted I would get GD, so I'm honestly kinda confused. I passed the test with flying colors with my first 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Lexi thank you, I will have to tell them to make sure they check on me.

@Gemma I'm already getting extra scans because I'm high risk due to my BMI and I'm also having twins. I had the same BMI with my last pregnancy and passed with flying colors and my OB said she doubted I would get it this time because my A1C was so low, I'm also pretty sure my blood sugar was low the times I have passed out, so I'm kinda confused 😬 I also have big babies, my son was 10lbs at birth without having GD, the twins have been matching up with him on weight at every growth scan, so I'm worried they're going to grow faster than he did if I actually have it, I'm already expecting them to be 9lbs at 38 weeks, maybe they will schedule me for 37 weeks if I have GD though, who knows 🤦🏻‍♀️

Aw I understand why you’d be nervous. I think you’ll do great, plus you’ll be in an environment where if something does happen there’s so many people around you who can help you- you got this!!
