We’ve been exclusively breastfeeding for nearly 10 weeks now, and my little girl always seems hungry. She doesn’t go more than an hour without screaming to be fed again, and I feel like we must be doing something wrong since she only feeds for about 10 minutes and sometimes she often cries 5 mins into the feed then won’t feed further. I’ve spoken to the health visitor and midwives before, and they mentioned that she fills up quicker because I have a fast let-down and an oversupply, which I’ve had since day one. I’m considering trying her with goat's formula to see if that helps, but I’m really unsure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Does anyone use goats formula? I will add that she’s always put on good amounts of weight each weigh in and she’s otherwise healthy, she has suspected CMPA and reflux (I’ve gone dairy free and she has gaviscon)

This is very normal for a breastfed baby to feed little and often. Have you tried laid back positions to help with the fast let down? Hand expressing a little of the initial letdown off first before latching so baby doesn’t get such a forceful letdown? They may be fussing as it’s overwhelming for them but these things really helped me! We’re still nursing at 17 months on demand which can be as often as every hour at night. Your milk will also begin to regulate around 3 months which will help reduce the over supply and as baby gets bigger they’ll handle the letdown better x

My daughter was the same at the beginning and I had my health visitor refer me to a lactation consultant to check the latch etc in case she wasn’t feeding correctly and it turned out she had a tongue tie. Once the tongue tie was let out, it became much better. Obviously, this may not be the case for your little one but I think a lactation consultant may be able to advise and help. Best of luck and it does get easier (it took us about 4months to really get into the groove of breastfeeding) xx

My 18mth old often feeds every hour it is very normal I’m not sure why we all have this idea that feeding often isn’t normal!
