NHS pensions during unpaid leave

Hi all, hoping someone can help. Im on mat leave for 9 months and have chosen to have my salary split evenly across the 9 months and chosen to continue paying into my pension. However, I’m going to extent my mat leave and will have 3 months of no income. So while I’m not opting out of my pension, I won’t be paying anything into it for 2 months. I’m under the impression this is bad, but don’t fully understand why. Can anyone explain or offer any solutions?

Dont forget you have accumulated annual leave so you can use that for your time off depending when you are due back. Its not too bad because your child benefits counts to your state pension in a way anyways and Nd some people opt out of it for whole year

You have to pay your pension payments on returning for the months you've not paid, so you will have double the pension payments once returning to work
