Weaning Blues?

After 14mths of breastfeeding, we are TTC no.2 and I needed to fully wean in order to ovulate. We also did sleep training so night weaned. So for 3 weeks my sleep is the best I've had in years, I have fully weaned for a fortnight, and I read you can get weaning fatigue. So I am definitely dealing with exhaustion, but, feeling very sad and even bored at times? Which is so odd for me. So there is a huge hormonal shift happening, but, bloody hell- when does the weaning blues end? I am hoping it clears in a few weeks from what I've read, but has anyone been through this to confirm? My usual energy boosters are not working so I need some positive experiences to help grit through this phase!

Sorry it may not be the answer you are looking for but my baby weaned herself (just refused to latch) at 10 months and that hormone shift gave me PPD which lasted over a year and eventually I went on antidepressants. I hope that isn’t your experience but I mention it because I naively thought PPD only kicked in in a the first few months and it took me a long time to acknowledge it and seek help. As your baby is older and it sounds like you have weaned more gradually hopefully your mood will be back to normal soon.

Try to find things you like to do to keep yourself busy or bonding activities for you and your little one. I’m not at this point yet and I know I will be sad as well once she’s done breastfeeding. But just stay strong for your little one 🫶 our bodies put a lot of work to providing everything our little ones need. Don’t let the blues get to you just try to find something that makes you happy. Reading has helped me get some motivation and cleanin/ reorganizing.

Thank you for the support. Really helps to hear from others who understand as I feel like I am just not myself. Hoping it passes soon else will get onto see a Dr in a months time and just get things checked out! 🥰

I experienced PPD after weaning my second. I thought I was fine and got through the newborn stage unscathed but it kicked in after weaning, apparently it’s quite common for it to be delayed as when you’re feeding you’re getting that oxytocin rush multiple times a day so it takes your body a while to get used to not getting that high. It took me about 3 or 4 months Id say to get through it but do get support from your GP if it gets bad or goes on too long as it’s hard!
