Glucose test

Hi ladies, I have never done a glucose test. Not this pregnancy or my first. No one has ever mentioned this to me.My one friend said that this was strange as with her pregnancies she had too. I am now worried that my midwife isn't really helpful towards me. Has anyone else experienced this ?

It’s usually offered to women at risk of gestational diabetes due to different factors including health (weight), race & family history so if they don’t think you fall into any of their categories they don’t offer it, it’s nasty anyway so you’re not missing out 😂😂😂 All the urine tests you do at your appointment check little signs for these things like protein and ketones and if you have none they won’t need to request a glucose test. Hope that helps xoxo

I had one a few weeks ago, but I wasn't sure why as I'm not overweight and have had no issues with this before. It was recommended by an obstetrician and my midwife wasn't sure why either based on all my obs so far. It was absolutely fine, just make sure you take something to do as it can be boring to wait.

Thanks ladies this is really reassuring

Maybe it depends on nhs trust. I’ve had one both pregnancies and I’m not high risk. It is standard for my trusts (2 different hospitals in London). Worth asking on your next visit.

I had one but only because diabetes is in my family and I have a high BMI. If you have no risk factors and baby is growing well, then they don’t offer it.

I wasn’t offered one as I didn’t fit into the criteria for needing one. I asked the midwife and she said it’s depends on family history, BMI, your health etc xx

I had one, just be careful with your sugar intake leading up to it, like drinking orange juice, eating carbs (croissants, bread etc can contain sugar) the test itself was a absolutely fine, a bit long but nothing to worry about. X
