Collect by colostrum

Hi! I am 35 weeks almost 36. Second pregnancy. Honestly, and not to be awful, but this time round my midwife has been really poor at appointment scheduling and generally is flustered throughout the appointment leaving no time for questions / makes me feel like I shouldn’t ask any. I had two appointments rescheduled, and they forgot to rebook one of them whilst I was there I said I need to book next appointment and she said she would just update my badger with an app and she never did, so I had to call and it took so long to get through and she put me in weeks later. Anyway, therefore, I don’t see her again until 37 weeks but I want to know about colostrum collection. When can I start this? I don’t have a kit or anything. Can you recommend which one I should i get online? Or at pharmacy?

I fed through my last pregnancy and it didn’t induce labour as I went a week over… this time round I’ve not been already feeding and started early around 35 weeks but didn’t get much- the recommendation is 37 weeks x

There isn’t a kit. It’s just syringes. You can get on Amazon

I plan on starting towards the end of 36 weeks. It says on the nhs website for between 36/37 weeks and its just depends what nhs trust you are in. But same rules apply for stopping if you get more/ worse Braxton hicks etc. i also plan on getting the momcozy colostrum harvesting kit x

I was told 36 weeks by the midwife but then one at the hospital mentioned collection only (like if you’re leaking a bit) at 36, but you can express from 37. I did also have a student midwife in one of my appts mention safety of some online kits with caps etc that come off and can pose a choking hazard. It’s worth asking your maternity unit as they can provide some that are in sterile packets and will give you advice on how to do it etc :) good luck x

I feel exactly the same with midwife appointment and also I never see the same person twice … May I ask where about are you based ?
