Episiotomy- did anyone need this done again with other babies?

I ended up getting an episiotomy cut during the labour of my little girl, they didn’t tell me they were doing it 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m just wondering if anyone ended up having another episiotomy again when they had more babies? I love the idea of having another baby but I’m scared I’ll end up needing one again😬 I can’t forget the pain I was in with it afterwards 😂 I’m 15 months PP and the scar still gets quite sore so I really hope I don’t need it again.

I didn’t need one the second time around ☺️

I had one with my first and second and the doctor said he’d done the cut along the same line. Recovery second time was much better for me but my scar is much more sensitive x

I didn’t need another with my second.

Asked heal baby care app and sharing in case it helps: "I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the episiotomy; that can be quite challenging both physically and emotionally. It's understandable to feel anxious about the possibility of needing another one in future pregnancies. While some women do have repeat episiotomies, many do not, especially if their subsequent labors are different in terms of position, size of the baby, or other factors. To help reduce the chances of needing an episiotomy again, you might consider discussing your birth plan with your healthcare provider ahead of time, focusing on preferences for labor and delivery. Additionally, practicing perineal massage during pregnancy can sometimes help improve elasticity and reduce the risk of tearing. Have you had a chance to discuss your concerns with your healthcare provider, especially regarding the soreness of your scar?"

You could you tell them to not do an episiotomy. Tears heal much better than cuts.

Also worried about this with my second due in Sept x

@Heaven No, I haven’t spoken to anyone about it yet. I just assumed it would probably happen again due to the scarring not being as stretchy when it comes to giving birth again. I was really surprised at how much pain I was in after, I was in floods of tears everyday as I couldn’t sit up. I was trying to establish breastfeeding with my little girl and it was practically impossible due to me not being able to sit up to feed her, I had to do it all lying down for the first 2 weeks. Managed it though thankfully! The soreness is awful now, i find when I’m wiping after a wee it gets so sore!

@Alice Yeah I think I might, I really struggled with it after having my little girl. The constant pain was absolutely awful. I was so gutted they didn’t ask me, it was quite a fast labour and her heart rate dropped as they didn’t check me for hours then noticed I was crowning 🤦🏻‍♀️ so it was a rush to get her out, she was born within 5 mins after 5 pushes!! I really don’t want one again😬😬

@Alexandra That’s reassuring to hear your recovery was better second time round! The scarring is so uncomfortable at times isn’t it. I didn’t expect it to feel this sensitive and sore 15 months PP! It’s mainly if I’m wiping on the toilet it gets sore. I hated the recovery of it, never felt pain like it and I squeezed a human out 😂

@Leah I’m sorry this happened to you I imagine this to feel so violating. Definitely make a birth plan and let them know you don’t consent to an episiotomy.

@Alice Yeah they kept a fair bit from me. I wasn’t really ‘with’ it as I was exhausted, they wouldn’t let me eat due to me having gestational diabetes so I felt so poorly. I ended up having a post partum haemorrhage too where I lost 600ml of blood and they didn’t tell me until the following day where a midwife mentioned it in a passing comment. I kept collapsing once I had my little girl and they just tried moving me onto the ward and not explaining why I felt this way and tried rushing me home. Looking back it was a bad experience 🥺
