Induced?

Hi, I’m 35 weeks pregnant and really struggling with pelvic girdle pain and sciatica. My midwife has said I could have an induction at 38 weeks/start to have membrane sweeps. With my first, my labour was a positive experience. So I was just wondering, do people think I should take the offer of being induced or should I try and push through until I naturally give birth. I’m really struggling with the pain and I can’t take any pain medication. However, the idea of having to stay in hospital for a couple of days, if it’s not a quick induction really stressed me out. What are peoples opinions on being induced?

It's all very personal to you but I can tell you my own personal opinion. I am quite against the idea of being induced unless absolutely necessary. For me it doesn't feel natural and there are sometimes risks. I have really bad pelvic pain also. An induction at 38 weeks is only 2 weeks away from your 'due date'. As I said, it's personal and completely what you want to do ❤️

I had this as well. I had to get induced as my waters went naturally and then nothing happened. I dilated quickly and was fine. I personally would do what’s best for you and your baby. Doesn’t matter if it isn’t natural. Just what’s best for you. Xx

@April @Jerry what I’m stressing about is having to stay in hospital ages if it doesn’t work straight away or takes ages. I have massive anxiety around being in hospital and away from my partner etc

Have you got one of those belts to support your stomach? Unfortunately it could be quick or it could take time. Have you tried have a massage? Any chance you could get your own room and maybe your partner can stay? Xx

It could be that you are in hospital for longer if you are induced, it may happen that way.. I suppose you have less control over it as opposed to staying at home for as long as possible. If that is a major anxiety it is whether that outweighs your pain.

I had PGP and sciatica in both pregnancies and did it naturally both times. Thankfully the sciatica did ease off and honestly with contractions and pushing, I forgot about the PGP because I think all the pain merges into one although I was in the pool both times so I think that helped too

It's a personal opinion but I refused to be induced. They told me baby girl was getting too big so they wanted to induce me. I said no. I opted for a planned c-section and I'm so glad I did. A lot of inductions end up in emergency c-sections anyways. But honestly the c-section was brill. Went in at 15:50, had the spinal, baby girl was born at 16:09 and I was in recovery by 17:00 and back in the ward at 17:10. Went home the next day, 11 days pp now and I feel great. Would definitely recommend a planned c-section over induction. But like I said, it's a personal opinion. Do whatever makes you feel more comfortable xx

I've had 2 induction, my first due to pregnancy diabetes, was very straight forward and gave birth 24hrs later. My 2nd i had to give birth as waters broke at 22wks but 24wks i had caught an infection ... I think just under 6hrs that labour lasted. My 3rd totally natural if anything i found that really scary! We just made it to the hospital ! With my 3rd i did suffer with the sciatica so I completely feel that pain , my consultant prescribed me with Hydrocodene this helped alot when taken along side paracetamol, it really helped me.get through the last month or so , I literally could not walk without constant pain, It's totally safe to take, I would as either gp or midwife xxx
