Names…

So… long story but my mother in law in Turkey has been battling leukaemia for about a year now and my husband has told her we want to use her name in our baby girls name. I don’t mind too much as I like her name but do wish he had spoken to me first, I also don’t know how this would go down with my mum, but on the other hand as we live in the UK my mum will get to be a lot more present in the babies life. Anyway, my question is if we use her name as a middle name, what are your suggestions as a first? Her name is Tülay which means Tulle Moon, delicate and bright. You pronounce it Too-Lie. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts :)

I think it’s a gorgeous name! We have two little ones my partner picked my little boys middle name (after his grandad) and I picked out little girls (after my mum) if you plan on having another you could always do it this way!

I love the name, but as someone who is married to a Turk (living in North Cyprus and Turkey) we decided not to use any names with the Turkish alphabet because it wouldn't translate to her UK documents. We named our girl Ayla (Ay is moon in Turkish), so that could be an option if you want the moon reference, but if not, it's a gorgeous name x

Talulah x

Hey, similar situation here! My husband wanted to use his mother’s name for our first daughter too. It’s Arabic and pronounced “Gul-Back” which isn’t the prettiest of names but translated means rose garden (or similar) so my little girl got Rose as her middle name. Fortunately for you the name as it stands is pretty! And I wouldn’t change it! My mum is also here in the UK and has the grandbabies every week and loves that she’s so hands on with them so there was no animosity. My MIL passed away last year and we are now all so grateful we used her name for inspiration 🥰

I have a cousin Ayla and a sister in law Hale. I think your mother in laws name is beautiful :) I've always liked Merriam for a girl

I love the name, so pretty! I had a similar situation (ish). My dad in 2019 passed and I wanted to incorporate it into his middle name, then my partners dad passed on the same day of our scan.. it felt abit like fate, so we decided to name our boy Arthur (after my partners dad). My stepmum who I’m close with was upset that we didn’t name him after my dad.. but I just explained my reasoning and she got it in the end. As you say, your mum will be very present so hopefully she realises that! x

It’s a very pretty name. My suggestions would be: Megan Lily Sandrine
