Please help. Informed of a miscarriage 2 weeks ago….

Please can anyone give me some advice before I go insane! I was told two weeks ago I had suffered a miscarriage (second one in 6 months) however my last miscarriage I lost naturally, this time only 5 days before I had a private scan who said they could see a strong heartbeat, I’m still not losing anything, have no symptoms and I am still having sickness. I know the sonographer is probably 99% right however I cannot get it out of my mind this tiny doubt they may be wrong and I cannot bring myself to have medical management. I actually feel like I am going mad because I know I can’t carry on like this forever and I need to start moving on but at the same time I cannot consent to medical management and always wonder what if… does anyone have any experiences like this?

Hi Hun, I am so sorry for your loss. It is such a hard thing to experience. I had my first MMC end of Feb. I found out at 10 weeks but had a scan at 6 weeks and there was a heartbeat. When I was 10 weeks I had a bad belly then had a scan that said there was no heartbeat and it could have stopped around 6 weeks. My body didn't start bleeding until 4 weeks after. I also had medical management. I'm still not over the miscarriage physically, I'm still spotting and having brown discharge etc. Can't wait for it to end. Sending you lots of love 💕

Sorry for your loss. I would contact your EPU. I did ivf, so had a scan at 6 weeks and saw the heartbeat. I went for my nhs scan at nearly 12 weeks and the baby was gone, just an empty sac so I think I lost it not long after that first scan. My body just hadn’t let go of the pregnancy. I took the medical management as I was going on holiday 2 weeks later and didn’t want to wait to pass naturally. But yes. your body can retain the pregnancy even after it is gone. Your EPU will be able to scan you and then advise of any next steps you want to take (eg wait to pass naturally, medical management, d&c) They wouldn’t offer any treatment without being 100% sure the pregnancy was no longer viable.

My first MMC was at 14 weeks and I had to be induced to give birth to my boy. It does happen but you can always get a 2nd opinion 🫶🏼

Unfortunately it could be weeks still before your body realises and passes the pregnancy naturally. If you feel like you need confirmation I would book another ultrasound so that you can feel better about getting on with medical management. They often offer two scans two weeks apart to ensure there has been no growth but if the heart rate has been seen and can no longer it’s not necessary, but might make you feel better x

I would see if you can go for a scan elsewhere to get a second opinion if you need that to feel certain
