I usually do too, my friend came over today and fed my son the old school way and it looked so much easier so I tried tonight (don’t ask why j tried at 2am) and now he’s wriggling around with gas and pain 😩 Note to self: don’t try new things in the night
lol I made that mistake too. Taking the easy way out led to more problems 😂, never ever again
The old school method causes over feeding and stomach stretching, therefore leaving your baby in pain. It's absolutely easier to pop that bottle in and hold it up for then to guzzle. Paced feeding doesn't have to be constant up and down. You can keep the milk horizontal to the floor, and it shouldn't drip out on its own, (do your own experiment), causing Baby to work for it and be able to stop when full. If it doesn't come out on its own, there's no reason to make them pause because they just do it naturally. And also, teach the friend the new way next time.
I sit her mostly upright but the teat is full so it's not the paced feeding. We tried it but it didn't work for her. She's a guzzler and literally pulls the bottle into her face and holds your fingers/thumb to stop you tilting or moving the bottle away. It did cause more gas originally, but with infacol and stirring rather than shaking the bottle, it's a lot more under control now. She never finishes a bottle because the guzzling seems to tire her out quickly but she's also a snacker so has smaller bottles more often during the day. At night she only has one feed (11 weeks), then a full bottle first thing in the morning.
Paced fed luckily he didn’t suffer with anything like reflux but oh my imagine being made to drink a pint without much of a break 😂😂 however as he got older I stopped (around 5 months) cause as he was starting to crawl and move around I found he was good at getting wind up himself xx
Somewhere between the two tbh, we sit him pretty upright but the paced feeding doesn’t work for him, he just gets incredibly frustrated and then takes a lot of calming down to be able to feed. Do what works best for your baby
I pace fed, my baby has silent reflux. Helped him a lot with that and reduce gas also
