First birthday dilemma, advice?

As we all know, our baby’s birthdays are coming up! Eeekkkk! We’ve been planning her first birthday (it was gonna be on June 8 since that’s her actual birthday) but I just can’t get behind a party. I’ve been so excited, but I noticed my baby is stressed around a lot of people, especially people she doesn’t know. Our closest family is 4 hours away so we see them here and there, but not enough so that she *knows* them so she’s always on edge. As I’ve been researching supplies and food and stuff, I don’t think I want to have a party for her. I think it’ll be too much and overwhelming for her little feelings right now and I want her to enjoy her day so my husband and I were thinking of taking her to the zoo because she LOVES animals! The aquarium was a hit for her 1/2 birthday! A cute birthday outfit, hopefully a pin from the zoo, a crown maybe? I think it’ll be great! But the mom guilt is hitting so hard. She won’t have the “first birthday party” to look back on when she’s older and I don’t want her to feel unloved later on. The thing is WE LOVE HER TO DEATH and want her to have fun on her birthday. Are doing the right thing?

I'm sure I'll be the first of many to say this, but whatever you decide to do is the right thing. There are no rules for what the "right" birthday looks like. The zoo sounds so fun! To say it more bluntly, I doubt she'll remember this birthday and you are loving her in the best way possible by not stressing her out! As for looking back on it when she's older, I can pretty much guarantee she won't care that she didn't have a traditional birthday party.

We opted out of first birthday party for the same reasons as well as I want to enjoy that day with her not have to be running around catering to others & having to calm my baby down from the stranger anxiety. We decided to take her to Disney world to see the Moana exhibit since it’s her favorite movie . Stay for the weekend at a Disney hotel with splash pads & let her enjoy & us be able to soak it all in. Our families are upset but it’s not about them, they live in different states and would be too much. It’s a milestone as parents and babies. Also you want to be able to leave the zoo if baby is frustrated, tired etc without guilt or we haven’t cut the cake yet etc.

@Bethany @Christina thank you both! I agree, it is about her, not about catering to everyone else. We thought of Disney too, but she’s still on 2-3 naps and thought that might be a disaster AND I’m 4 months pregnant right now 😊 I do feel like I’m making the right decision, thank you guys for helping me 😭

I think large, over the top first bday parties are just a waste of money 😂 you do you and just enjoy the day with your baby girl!

@Alyssa no problem, honestly only reason we are doing Disney is because my sister works there & gets us in for free so doesn’t matter if we have to leave early plus we live 20mis away. You do you, enjoy ur girl & relax because that day last year you were not able to have the most relaxing day ever (what I tell myself) lol.

We aren’t really doing a party either. My parents will be visiting the weekend before my son’s birthday so we are planning on maybe going to the zoo or something like that while they are here. And then my sons actual birthday is on Father’s Day and we normally go see my in laws that day so he will still be around family and we will probably do something small with cake and presents. Although his favorite thing will probably be the wrapping paper 😂

We are doing a family trip! She loves the beach and we can celebrate her there, we invited all my family but I think babies get used to people after being around for a little more than a few mins. It's very common to not be excited with strangers. My baby cries every time she sees her grandpa 🤷🏼‍♀️ so I'll do a small celebration there but won't spend hundreds on just a party! So.a Zoo visit sounds awesome, maybe you can have family come along but not being on top of her? Babies won't remember! Take a few pictures and enjoy!!
