3yo afraid of playgrounds!
Frankly she’s afraid of everything! But literally every new playground is a battle. She cries, doesn’t want to play, freaks out for everything…it’s even worse when other kids are around. Please give me tips. I am a homeboy but I try to get out the house sometimes. But it gets so frustrating and we end up just leaving!
Possibly over stimulation. Have you tried smaller maybe indoor playgrounds? Is she in school/daycare? This may sound bad, but maybe do slow introductions like with dog training. Just go for a walk around the playground for like 2-3 weeks without stepping foot on it (depending on how often you walk adjust time as needed) then start taking “snack breaks” near the playground but not too close that she gets uncomfortable. Bring some favorite toys and foods and make a picnic out of it. Slowly over time make your “snack breaks” closer to the playground. Base it off her response to how close you get to it. Ensure you have any backups for meltdowns, (like extra favorite snacks or video pad etc.)cause you’ll get them and you’ll have bad days. It’s part of the process. Consistency is key! Also make it enjoyable for YOU. She will copy what she sees in you. If you’re frustrated and over stimulated, then she will be. So prepare yourself too, not just her.
