Weight loss

I am almost 6 weeks postpartum and I still look pregnant because my pregnancy pouch doesn’t go away. What did you do to lose your weight and tighten the belly after pregnancy?

Weight loss: calorie deficit and cardio. Tighten belly: still working on it

Don’t worry too much about your pouch yet! Your uterus can take up to 12 weeks to go back to normal. I didn’t try it personally, but I know some women will wear waist trainers to help

It's still early and give yourself grace. Diaphragmatic breathing, tva work, eating to support your goal and strength training in a progressive manner. I'm a CPT & CNC and I advise my clients to start slowly with small changes that are sustainable.

Hi! Pre/postnatal fitness trainer here 👋 . 6 weeks is very very early and your body is still recovering from the plate sized wound in your uterus (aka your placenta). I typically don't recommend weight loss until around 6 months postpartum. In the meantime, work on reconnecting with your breathing, core, and pelvic floor.

@Ali I am so concerned with limiting the calorie, would it affect the breastfeeding? I heard for enough milk supply, breastfeeding mom needs more calorie.

Would strongly not recommend reducing calories at this point from both a recovery standpoint and especially if breastfeeding

I started any regime at 12w. Until then I let my body heal and Bf and pump as much as I could 1. To increase my supply and to make more than what baby is needing and 2. Every time I pump or BF I get mild cramps and that’s the uterous detracting and contracting back to size. At 12w I started light weights and planks and reverse planks and core/pelvic floor exercises not only did I get my tummy down I have a strong AF pelvic core I don’t pee myself when a sneezing/coughing/laughing I can jump an hr on my boys’ trampoline just fine without leaking lol. No calorie deficit as we need an extra 500cals to maintain supply but just eat healthy and wholesome. So no soda/energy drinks and no junk for me. Lots of water, fruits veggies meat and bone broth, nuts.

@Kellie Right, at this point I would not want to think about limiting calories. But I need to strengthen my pelvic muscle

Do you have a gym ball? Feed/and or rock baby to sleep on that, while bouncing. Because it’s a ball not a chair we have to use our core muscles to stay upright on the ball and not fall off. A really easy way of working the belly down w no effort to you and baby might actually sleep easier w a lil bounce. It does take up space though.

Give yourself some grace it takes time for the uterus to shrink down 🩷 high protein, and balance healthy carbs and fats (women need a high fat diet!) stay hydrated, move your body as much as you can

Limiting calories will absolutely affect your supply especially if you limit them at just 6 weeks post partum! Honestly mama, you just grew a baby, give your body a good chunk of time to heal before you start worrying about losing weight. Breastfeeding often makes its tricker to lose fat because your body is storing it to make milk in case you dont fuel correctly. I'm 5 month post partum and just started tracking my macros just to begin learning about what I'm eating focusing on increasing protien. I try to eat around 2,700 a day, which is recommended for breastfeeding mothers. I'll begin implementing workouts consistently next month. This is my second baby in 2 years and I chose to start habits little bits at a time because as a new mama of 2 it's HARD! I want to build habits that will last and that are attainable every day without effecting my supply, my sleep, or my sanity!

Also if I can give any mama who is anxious about their body post partum, it would be to just look at your beautiful baby, snuggle your baby, and memorize every single moment because they change so fast. You only get your baby for a year, your toddler for another couple, and your kid for another couple. You'll have YOU for the rest of your life. Enjoy what you've built right now 🤍

@Katie Agreed, honestly I also want to be fit, exercise and be strong despite of just losing weight so that I can hold my baby not having a back pain and walk him around without a joint pain. A lot has changed for a good but would also want to be capable enough to play with him without getting tired and keep up with his pace.

Keto diet. Heard it from other gym friends. Swear by it. Don't even need to 100% commit, you can have cheat meals.
