What was this?

My 16 month old woke at 11.30pm last night and stayed awake screaming, crying, moaning until 4pm when he had his 2nd bottle of milk. What on earth was that?????

Our eldest didn’t cry but would be awake a couple of hours a night most nights for a couple of months then started sleeping through x

@Tara what did he do this? What’s the reason 😩😩😩

Might be split nights I’m dealing with that now.

I agree split nights I think it was him getting ready to sleep through some of it potentially having too much day sleep but wasn’t ready to drop a nap or reduce because then he was awake we’d try to get him back to sleep but he just wouldn’t but he would just lay there with us we continued treating it like it was night we never just got up with him and watched tv or anything we just went in the soare bed lights off x

@Tara no I stayed in his room with him the whole time on the floor next to him with my hand in his cot tapping and rubbing his back until he got really distressed I fed him. What does split nights mean?

Split nights are usually a sign that a nap needs to be dropped, a wake window needs to be widened/general schedule issue. It basically means that there’s not enough sleep pressure to get them to sleep through (they basically are not tired enough). I’d look at shortening a nap or taking about 30 mins away from total day sleep for a week consistently and see if it improves. As they get older, sleep needs change/reduce.

@Emma he only as 1 nap a day of 2 hours and that’s it and has a large enough gap between nap and bed time. Bedtime routine has always worked until last night

It works until it doesn’t work anymore….I’d cut it by 15 mins if you don’t feel comfortable with 30 mins less.

It might just be a one off. But it it happens a few times then it’ll definitely be a nap length issue x
