Has anyone experienced rectal prolapse during the last stages of pregnancy?

I’m having a lump in my anus after I finish a poo and it seems to go back in on its own once I’m done. It has only started happening recently and I’m really worried. I’m due for my C-section tomorrow and I’m worried the constipation that will follow will further worsen it.

Definitely not piles? I thought the same, then had a little look in the mirror to discover I have piles for the first time in my life. Had to google pictures because I wasn’t sure what to look for

It's almost definitely piles (haemorrhoids). Very normal in pregnancy and they should resolve after xx

@Paulina without the need for surgery ?

I've had this with evety pregnancy! It definitely sounds like piles! Suppositories are great and are safe during pregnancy. I would also recommend getting some stool softeners for the dreaded after baby constipation! Start taking them as soon as you have baby and they will be a life saver!

@Ellis is there any special softener? Or is it the usual lactulose which you can buy over the counter ?

No, no need for surgery. Especially if they go back on their own. I've suffered with piles for years and years (partly something that runs in my family, partly due to weightlifting I think). When they go back in on their own, it's actually a very mild case. Sorry for TMI but when I get flare ups, they tend to not go back in by themselves and I end up in quite a bit of discomfort but Anusol usually sorts me out. You'd only need a medical intervention (and not even necessarily a surgery, there are non-surgical ways!) if you had a very bad case where they just stay out, bleed, and affect your quality of life. Generally, pregnancy-related piles resolve themselves pretty quickly after birth (because the pressure that caused them is no longer there) so honestly, I wouldn't worry! If you're worried, you can always call your midwife or GP. If they start annoying you, get some anusol. The label will say not to use it in pregnancy but my GP said it's perfectly safe - although always best to consult yours xx

Just any over the counters ones. I tend to get dulcolax as I can do it on amazon because I'm lazy 😅

I had same issue after c section due to constipation caused by the pain killers. I was also given laxatives. Still got these as I strained while passing stool. I was prescribed Anusol to fix it.
