Not bringing forward c section

I have left messages with my midwife and consultant but just wanted to see what the consensus was and what other peoples experience has been… I’m 37 weeks pregnant with GDM, diet controlled. Have been having serial growth scans. The last scan showed accelerated growth and large for dates. Baby’s tummy is >99th centile. I was offered an induction at 38 weeks but I have refused induction. They had previously booked me in for a c section at 39+4 so that I don’t go overdue, but when I asked if this could be brought forward in view of the scan the consultant said no, as the only risk is shoulder dystocia. I was a bit shocked at the time so didn’t ask questions. Since then I’ve been worried that there are other risks of letting his growth accelerate another 2 weeks (stillbirth/placental insufficiency) and the risk of me going into labour naturally before then. Has anyone else been in this situation before and offered a section at 38 weeks?

Very unlikely they would do any earlier than 39 weeks if it's your first and you are diet controlled. I had my 2nd at 38 weeks due to previous gdm, current gdm and being on insulin.

Mine was only brought forward to 38 weeks as i was on insulin. Xx

@Naomi thank you that really helps!

@Deb thank you!

That's okay! Don't worry I tried to get my first earlier aswell.. there was no budging!

@Naomi what were their reasons for this do you remember? I think if I had that explained to me I wouldn’t be so confused

Normally with 1st you tend to go to full term, but you are normally offered an emergency if you go into labour before your section date

@Naomi yes they said I could still have an emergency if I went into labour sooner, but it would depend on how dilated I was/how low down baby is. I’d really like to avoid an emergency as it would have to be under GA due to previous back surgery whereas in an elective setting they would be able to take the time to do a spinal!

Just a FYI. I had a spinal with my first, which was an emergency section. It was classed as a 1b meaning baby had to be out within 30 minutes. Xx

@Deb that’s good to know that it’s still possible, thank you!

Spoke to my midwife this morning and she confirmed what you both said, thanks for giving me some peace of mind yesterday 😊
