@Avery Did you have to wait very long to be seen? Did they prescribe you progesterone before you started trying or once you found out you were pregnant? xx
I got fertility assessments due to three miscarriages in less than a year - this is after having had no problems conceiving our first child. Issues for us were low thyroid for me (Gp can actually check this for you) and sperm defragmentation due to varicocele for my partner. I got meds which helped and he required a small op. Issues were resolved by doing both and even though my egg count was very low we were successful in getting pregnant and staying pregnant within a few months of treatment, without the need for IVF. Not sure where you are based but my partner’s op isn’t available on the NHS so had to do that privately. It’s a super common issue so found this rather surprising. I would definitely advise you go with your partner to get testing. You might find that it’s something that’s very treatable quickly and it will save you some heartache. 💗
I had three recurrent miscarriages and then was referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic. While waiting for an appointment I fell pregnant again, contacted them and was immediately prescribed progesterone. I’ll never know if that’s the reason that pregnancy continued (I’m now 33 weeks pregnant with second child and didn’t have progesterone this time) but it was great that they supported me with it.
No I was contacted by the clinic right away. They prescribe the progesterone for after ovulation. So before you know if you are pregnant. I’m on my third cycle with them.
@Samantha Did you have to wait long for your appointment at the clinic? That’s so lovely you fell pregnant again, did it take you very long? I’m just in a bit of turmoil at the minute as it’s kind of like we can try again once things have settled down or I can wait for my first appointment with the consultant. I have no idea when that will be 💔 I will private message you xx
@Francis Hi Francis. That’s really interesting and it’s amazing what they can find, was this all confirmed and found at your appointment? I have no idea how long we’re going to have to wait 😢 I do wonder if it’ll be worth us looking into going private with the consultant in hope that we may be seen sooner. I don’t really know what to expect. xxx
Normally it takes a few appointments as you’ll have to go for a whole bunch of different tests. I think we had a full picture by the third appnt - partly because my partner had to see a second consultant specialist for his specific issue. We ended up going private completely as the NHS don’t cover much if it’s for your second and you’re older. We also didn’t think we had much time left as I’m almost 40 so very much wanted to maximise every cycle. Mid way through our treatment our local NHS hospital, who would have been who we’d be with if we’d got an NHS referral, lost their licence to carry out fertility treatment! 😬 Needless to say we were happy with our choice. We did a lot of research on who exactly to see at what clinic. I believe some of the private clinics can really try to convince you to spend money on treatments that don’t work. We really trusted our consultant - for example he was honest about ivf being a bad route for us so we avoid spending money on pointless rounds.
Hi, sorry to hear about your miscarriages. Once I was referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic, I was initially given a long wait time for an appointment (about 1 year!) but went back to the GP and they were able to extradite it for me so I was then seen in about a month. The testing flagged up an indicator for APS (a blood clotting disorder) which apparently is one of the most common, but treatable reasons for recurring miscarriage. I continued to try alongside the testing and was given progesterone to take upon receiving a positive pregnancy test. But then once APS was diagnosed, I was given blood thinners to take as well as soon as I fell pregnant. I’m now currently at 21 weeks which is the furthest I’ve made so feeling confident that the blood thinners have helped!
@LMK Can I private message you please? xx
Of course x
I was referred to a fertility clinic after 3 miscarriages. After testing I found out that I have a low follicle count. Currently on progesterone because of my past miscarriages.
