@Molly (She/her) Hiya, I'm under physio for PGP. This is more for perineal massage to reduce tearing in labour. Sorry, I wasn't very clear xxx
Sorry you did mention that. Mom brain is not functional haha Well I didn't do any perineal massage but did a lot of breathing exercises and my midwife massaged me while I was delivering. Very minor tear with a very tight pelvic floor (only needed 1 stitch). You can probably use any vibrator you have and not buy a new toy haha
@Molly (She/her) they look just like vibrators don't they! I did think that could save money 🤣
I asked my midwife for a device called Epi-no. She said she didn’t recommend it because they didn’t have data to back it up or anything. So I am just taking warm relaxing baths 3 a weeks and practice my breathing while my partner helps with the massages. However, my cousin did use the Epi-no and she LOVED it.
I considered getting one, my husband just did one for me (no device) becuase I couldn’t reach with my fingers. Well what a waste anyways, I was terrified of tearing but tbh I didn’t feel it, even though I tore my clitoris and inside (not outside for some reason!!). My stitches were still visible 7 weeks postpartum! Weird looking. But what ACTUALLY HURT? Stupid hemorrhoid!!!!!!!! That hurt so so so so so bad. Nothing compared to the tearing ugh. Should have feared that. I got hemorrhoid they said because my push time was so long (5+ hours.) LOLLLLLL.
How did you approach your partners about the concept? I can't help feeling weird about it myself haha.
@Zara he kind of just took for granted it was his job really. I can’t drive so he comes with me to all midwife appointments and when my midwife started talking about it he asked a few questions and it was just a given he would do it. We didn’t have to do much talking. We did laugh and I was a bit nervous the first time. But more to do with the fact that it felt uncomfortable. I really feel much much better when I do it after a bath before and with dim lights etc.
Thanks that's really helpful!!
Not sure if it was just ‘luck’ but I did it religiously (with the help of my husband). I didn’t tear and the midwives said they could tell I’d done them but who knows if they were just bigging me up to give me strength to keep going during labour 😂 i used the expert midwife oil stuff. I’d just be matter of fact with your partner, takes the awkwardness out of it.
Have you considered seeing a pelvic floor physio? Much more effective than a tool! They'll give you a lot of exercises to help and massage it themselves.
