IUI or straight to IVF?

Hey, we’ve just found out that the NHS have put back our IVF for another 9 months 😞 So we have decided to go private. We don’t have much money, so any advice on whether we should start with IUI , or just got straight for IVF? 😀 Thank you so much xxxx

I think it can depend on the reason why you can’t conceive naturally. For us it’s MFI so we were told IUI would not be beneficial so we went straight to IVF.

I did some IUI’s thinking I would save some money for the same reason, but it didn’t end up being that much cheaper than a round of IVF by time all the meds were added plus I had a few cancelled rounds due to cysts etc, and never fell pregnant from any of the IUIs. It is expensive but in the end I wished I had gone straight to IVF and saved myself both money & time X

Which NHS clinic was it if you don’t mind me asking? We’ve just had a successful FET that ended in miscarriage and so trying to see if we can get NHS funding but I’m just so worried about the delays… it does depend on what your particular circumstances are / reasons for IVF but I’ve recently been exploring ABC IVF based in St Pauls. They are the sister clinic of our first round (Create Fertility) and for the same cycle is going to cost us at least 2.5k and maybe even 3.5k if we are lucky enough to have a fresh transfer this time round. They have specific eligibility criteria (must be under 37/ specific BMI etc) and all the routine appts are mid-wife led rather than consultant led.. but if you have MFI for example and not many issues yourself it’s a great option. I had a screening call yesterday and we have been approved to start treatment so feeling like there is some hope out there!

Straight to IVF. It’s more expensive per cycle but much more likely to be successful so probably cheaper in the long run. Good luck!!
