Speech

Just curious, how many words can your 16 month old say? My daughter just says mama baba nana yaya(hooray).. she used to say yes before which she is not saying anymore. She said car yesterday but not anymore. She understands most things we ask her to do..

None really. She babbles a lot but that’s about it. Just like your daughter, she says mama every now and then, baba, dada..

Thanks girls.. I’ve been quite worried. She tries to say a lot but it just comes out as ‘uh uh ‘ and more blabber

My girl, 16 months, says mama, dada, hi & up (like she's gettin paid for it), dob (dog), dup (duck), nana for banana and she sort of says nanana I think for my mum but not often. She understands things and knows what most (familiar/common to her) things are. 🤷‍♀️

Oh yes, my girl says hi too. Like the whole day goes around waving and saying hi to us and ai which she says when we say bye. My worry is cos she was saying Yes for few days but now she isn’t anymore. And she said car and duck a few times.

@Fatima as long as she's saying things I think it isn't a worry. Our girl had some physio when she was a few months old to see if she may need a helmet and I aaked one time about her having stopped rolling over just all of a sudden. the therapist said it happens, babies get bored and stop doing things for abit, to explore new things, which made sense🤷‍♀️

My daughter is similar, she is saying mama Dada baba more bird. Gestures count as words, she nods yes and no, she is beginning to work with a speech therapist.

@Charlotte thank you! Hope your little one’s doing well too

@Kaitlyn thanks! We’ll see how much she improves by 18months

Hi! I’m just new to this group! Excited to jump on! My little guy is almost 18 months & he’s got about 50 words, but those include animal sounds, names and objects. He pronounces the same word for 2 different items like bath & ball (ba) but he associates them differently, like he knows the difference, so it counts as 2 words. I play a lot of music in our house & I repeat words over and over again and eventually they catch on! Just takes time I think. Every baby is difference and holds onto different things! I recently was able to go to a speech pathologist class & she said to read you little one 3 books a day face to face - so they are looking at your mouth more than the book. So they can hear & see your grand expressions. There is SO much to learn and things that are always changing as a mom. But again, my sisters first one didn’t talk for the first year and a bit. He’s 6 now, and has excellent speech! I hope that helps! My little 2 sense. You are doing great!

Mine is 18mo and is only saying about 5

@Mikaela thank you!! This is really helpful. Which speech pathologist did you go to?

My boy is saying around 20 🫣
