Anyone else test high for their GBS screening?

GBS and antibiotics… Anyone else test high for their GBS screening? I am questioning the administration of antibiotics during labor and I can’t seem to get a straight answer. Anyone else have experience or advice on the subject?

I’m pretty sure Antibiotics during labor treat you alone and not the baby, so you wouldn’t be affecting her “good bacteria.” :) Giving her antibiotics if she needs them is risky because you wouldn’t administer them until she is sick, right? So you’re waiting for her to get potentially deathly sick before treating. (A risk to weigh) Also, when my baby was in the NICU for low temperature, they tested for GBS and they grew the sample out, which takes up to 2 days before they determine if it’s clear or has bacterial growth (I’m not sure if faster testing is readily available-I was surprised they grew it like that). Sooo they treated him as if he had GBS before they figured out if he had it or not (he didn’t). Why didn’t why wait for results? Because if it was GBS, it could have gotten much worse in the two day interim period. So he was given antibiotics he didn’t wind up needing to be safe. :/ And that can affect good bacteria, yes. Does that help at all?

So the antibiotics during labor treat your own bacteria so the baby doesn’t get it from you during delivery. Why don’t they treat moms sooner? Because GBS is easily something that comes and goes. I was positive in one pregnancy and negative in my most recent pregnancy.
