Confused about 30 free hours childcare

I’m so confused about this. I have to apply in Jan for my son to have 30 free hours childcare in Sept this year. He’s currently in nursery 1 day a week but I’m considering sending him to our local schools nursery as I’d want him to go primary there when he’s of the age. However I need to make it work around my work. How long are the school nursery sessions and does he have to go 5 days a week or can he go just 3 days a week and I use the rest of my hours to put him in breakfast/after “school” clubs (they’d be with the nursery he’s currently in). Or do I just keep him in his current nursery and have him do 30 hours over 3 days? Why is this so confusing to me? 😂

All I know is the session for like spilt morning and afternoon so 9am til 12pm 1til 3pm my sister in law uses her 30 hours free session for morning session and pays for the afternoon sessions as she works full time xx

Where are you based in the UK? Certain areas have different rules. I’m in Wales and the rules are 12.5hrs public nursery (2.5 hours each day) and 17.5 hrs private childcare (daycare /childminders etc). This is for 30 weeks a year so if you need childcare outside of term time, then you have to pay the extra or spread the private hours across the full year

Ahh thanks all. I’ll have a chat with my sons current nursery tomorrow! X

Can I ask where you've seen you need to apply for this in January? As far as I can see, we need to apply for this in June/July for August 2020 babies? Xx
