Grommets

We've just found out our little guy needs grommets. I'd like to know what other people's experiences with this are and what the wait time/cost was.

The procedure is quite fast. Recovery is next day sort of deal. Public wait is up to 2 years or Private depends on your specialist. Cost about $1500 for us after insurance and we got about $600 back from medicare

@Maddi thanks. Do you happen to know the cost before insurance? And how long did the grommets stay in for your little one?

@Kylie that was the surgeons fees, the insurance covered anaesthetic and the private hospital fees. Hospital fees were about 2k but insurance covered it all. Anaesthetist fees vary massively.

@Kylie little one is 18 months and they are still in place (got them at 11 months I think) My first had them for 2 years before one fell out and he did have to have them redone unfortunately

Hey, we paid private and it was about 4k. Our little one had endless respiratory issues and even though the grommets were for recurrent ear infections we noticed a drastic improvement in his overall health. He is a different kid!

We went through private health. The wait was about a month for the ENT and 6 weeks for the procedure. The out of pocket was 800 for specialist and anesthetist, as the specialist participates in the $500 max out of pocket scheme and there was no hospital excess for kids. It’s hard to know what the full fee would have been as I just got quoted on the out of pocket. We got a great result for his hearing and balance. Good luck!
