Constipation

My 9mo hasn’t pooped for 3 days and usually goes daily. Today she’s straining soo much and is screaming when doing so. Then passing the tiniest amount of what looks like rabbit droppings. Tried a warm bath, pear, massage & plums (will pick up prunes tomorrow)

Mines is exactly the same I’ve giving her prunes the last 2 days and still nothing . Been feeding her all the foods that could help . Mines has been straining so hard but not passing anything and when she does it’s the same a wee dropping .

@Emma its awful isn’t it. Is she crying too? Its breaking my heart 🥺

Mine is the same! I’ve given prunes, chia seeds, pears etc and nothing so far. I don’t know what else to try. It’s so hard to see them in pain 😩

@Caitlin she’s not crying but she’s turning so red to strain it’s awful to watch .

We had a bad week of watery poops from teething then went to this it’s one extreme to the next . I’m Wondering do we think it’s because they are eating more food ? How many meals is your little ones on ? I’ve just added lunch a week ago .

Does anyone elses little one strain so hard that they have to catch their breath afterwards? Its horrible

Make sure you don’t give her food that can make her constipated for few days like rice and banana,

@Emma omg same here!! I think so tbh, this week she’s eaten way more solids than usual, polished off 3 meals a day entirely. Must be linked 🤔

@Caitlin I think so they must be struggling to digest it . I have been trying brocolli , beans , prunes all stuff I thought would help so what else do we do ? I think I’ll phone the HV tomorrow.

Is she drinking plenty? They might suggest Lactulose.

Paediatric movicol is the first thing you should try - this is pretty clear on the treatment I hope it’s helpful: https://southwest.devonformularyguidance.nhs.uk/formulary/chapters/1.-gastrointestinal/constipation-children

My baby is on meds now for constipation as he would go 5-6 days without going and it was agony for him to push out 😭 Anyway, prior to meds, HV advised prune or apple juice 50/50 with water and like others have said, avoid anything that constipates- like bananas. Lots of other fruit and plenty of water/juice. I hope she goes soon as it’s so horrible for them and you as mum to watch them struggle 😭

Prune purée defo about 2-3 teaspoons full after main meal. Try the I love you tummy massage whenever you’re changing nappy. Avoid ellas pouches too frequently. Give her a bit of water (maybe 20-30ml) with every meal (if on 3 meals). Last resort is maybe get pharmacist to advise on whether you can use lactulose. My LO was prescribed that but I did the above to avoid using it

Also allow baby spending time on tummy as much as possible

My baby is the same, we also give avocado and peas which seam to soften it. So horrible to see..I now get so happy when she does a big soggy poo 💩 🤣

Gripe water or lactulose helps. Also lots of fluids, particularly water.

I had the same problem and just kept giving water all throughout the day through a bottle because she wouldn't drink enough through the sippy cup and this solved it.

Yes lots of water offered along with all of the foods suggested above!

Anyone elses LO still constipated?? Still nothing from mine today 🥺
