You have to have 5 consecutive days off for a fine if that is any help. As a teacher I would say to tell the truth otherwise your child has to keep it secret too and that’s really hard for them. I’ve had children come back from being ‘off sick’ and asked if they are feeling better and they have cried because they had to lie about it. I would just tell the school you appreciate it is unauthorised absence but you just want to let them know they won’t be in on xxx days.

I would always tell the truth. We took our 6 year old out last year for a week and we didn’t get fined although it didn’t get approved. We did use extenuating circumstances as I have a child in an sen school in a different county with two different holiday dates. Think it’s £60 per parent.
