For mama's with little ones on gaviscon, is it normal for poo to get thick?

Apparently so according to the health visitor and my nephew was on it as a baby and his and my sons poo is like play doh texture. Apparently it will stay like that until they’re off it. As long as you baby is still having regular dirty nappies it’s okay. Definitely check with your health visitor as well though. And let us know if she says otherwise, cause they do have different opinions sometimes 😄

@Gigi Thank you. That's very helpful. I'll ask

@Steph yes, I know it can. Is part of why I was wondering if it is normal to thicken at all or if that always means constipation will happen

Yeah. My daughter has been on it since she was 3 weeks old. She's now almost 13 months old and still on it. My daughters poo was like playdoh for months but she was never constipated as such (as she's breast fed and breast milk is a natural laxative). When there was a fear that she was maybe constipated, our GP prescribed lactulose, which worked a charm. Formula fed babies are much more prone to constipation whilst on gaviscon cause formula is thicker than breast milk. Hope that helps! 😊

Yeah do you give it every feed? I do it every other as I don’t want her getting constipated

@Fiona That does help, thanks. Mine is also exclusively on breast milk

@Rachael Yeah, 3/4 times per day, so about every other feed throughout the feed as he won't take it in one go. He hates the stuff.

Yup! My little ones went more pasty and much less than before!

@Ellen i asked to play around with the dosage and found we got the best relief from reflux symptoms without constipation by giving half the recommended dose. If we gave some for every feed baby needed lactose for constipation relief.
