OB search for PPO

Hi all! Looking for the right fit in terms of OB…I’ve been to two of “the best” so far in TO and both left something to be desired. Dr. Ghausi seemed great but his ultrasound equipment was ancient and his office amenities were pretty sparse. He rushed through the ultrasound which was extremely blurry and left me anxious and worried for weeks thinking the baby didn’t grow enough for it’s age. Dr. Grossman had better equipment but his dry personality could prove challenging to work with as he asked for family history and made jokes about close relatives recent passing. Not to mention the 3 hour wait to get through our first appointment! I’m at a loss. Any suggestions? Has anyone delivered with either Ghausi or Grossman and had a good experience? I can’t decide who to go back to or if I should try someone else entirely. I’m willing to drive and go outside of TO if it’s worth it. Cedars Sinai maybe?

My babies were delivered at Cedars and UCLA, but I switched to Dr. Christen Field at UCLA Westlake Village when we moved here a couple of years ago. So, she hasn’t delivered a baby for me, but she did get me through some scary symptoms (which required a lot of testing but turned out to be benign). I’ve heard a lot of moms who’ve had her deliver their babies really adore her. Her bedside manner is lovely, too. Maybe worth a shot!

I love all the OB’s with UCLA Health in Westlake!

But they don’t do VBACs, if that’s something you’re interested in.

@Amanda good to know! yes, he seems like he’s very passionate about his work and caring. The office being low key doesn’t bother me so much but it’s unfortunate he doesn’t have newer ultrasound equipment. I know that will matter less the further I get along but it was a big drawback for a first visit.

@Erin TY! I’ll check into her

@Delaney ohh nice! I’ll check them out as well. Where do they deliver at? Los Robles still? This is my first pregnancy so no VBAC.

Yes, Los Robles!

I used Dr Ghausi and had such a nice experience I think his office is old but he’s so good and punctual I didn’t mind.

Hi! I went to ULCA in Westwood (westlake village was full when i got pregnant) and saw Dr. Rahimian. I really liked her and my experience at UCLA was really great thru pregnancy and I felt really supported thru a very tough pregnancy. However, the one downfall at UCLA is that you won’t necessarily deliver with your OB because they do an OB on call approach (whoever is on call that day will do your delivery) so if that’s important to you, I wouldn’t suggest it. Depending on your health tho, they have a fantastic midwife program that I’ve heard amazing things about so could be a good option (my pregnancy was high risk so I couldn’t go that route). If you do the midwife program, there’s only like 3 midwives so you’d have a good chance of delivering with your midwife, but I don’t know for sure if they do the on call approach with the midwives like they do with the OBs. I know everyone raves about cedars but all the women I know that delivered there hated it!

@Erin question for you— when you see an OB at the UCLA westlake location, where do you deliver?

@Erin nevermind just saw Delaney’s comment that they deliver at Los Robles! I wish I would have been able to get in to their office because I’d like to deliver at Los Robles next time. I had to go all the way to Westwood

For what it’s worth, I delivered my second in Westwood, and the doctor I had did not use an on-call approach. In the event she was unable to be there (travel, illness, whatever), someone on her team (i.e., a doctor who worked under her) was to deliver my baby. I think it depends who your OB is, whether you get a doctor who’s committed to delivering you or whether you get whomever is on call. It’s always worth asking when you first get established with an OB, regardless of hospital/affiliation!

I was just pointed to UCLA Westlake OBGYN! I got a tons of great feedback about them and all of their staff. I just made my first ultrasound with them, so fingers crossed!

@Amanda I asked them when I called to make my appointment. I’m going to deliver at Los Robles and they are affiliated with them so they have drs go there. Definitely ask if they can deliver at your hospital!

Ucla Dr. Nathan is amazing! When I moved from Santa Monica/ Westwood ucla out to this area I switched halfway during my pregnancy. She is awesome. Super nice and informative. I also had dr Rahimian in Westwood before dr Nathan and loved her too!
