Help

Hi my daughter is on the waiting list to have her tongue tie snipped she’s 13 months now . I was wondering on how other people’s babies recovered after did it really hurt them for days or did they not even notice it had been done and carry on as normal?

She had it done when she was younger a few months old and she was just a little grouchy trying to suss out how to take a bottle with new movement of her mouth. You will find they do some funny faces for days 😂. They cope really well and it’s over in one second xx

She has to go under general because of her age. But he said she won’t be pain once it’s done they go back to normal which baffles me because they’re having something snipped

I’ll be following (my son has tongue tie) 4 weeks old x

@Beth she will more bothered by the anaesthetic than the procedure. Honestly my lg was fine xx

@@Jolou so it definitely won’t hurt her the day after the procedure? Because that’s the main concern the day after the procedure I don’t want her to be sat in pain

I would give calpol. She maybe uncomfortable when eating and drinking. The mouth heals super quick it will be like a scratch type uncomfortable feeling xx

Thank you I’m just so un sure on what to do xx

I seem to have had a different experience. My son had his tongue tie done just over a month old. The two weeks after care was absolute torture for me and I couldn't do it. They didn't want the tie to fuse back together so we (my husband) had to "exercise" the wound every four hours, both lip and tongue tie. I had to be in a different room when it happened. Not trying to scare you, just sharing my experience. I know other moms in my city had the same experience as well. We even looked up the after care and there are videos on YouTube supporting what we had to do.

@Andrea when you had to exercise your son’s tongue, was he in pain? My 10 week old has his appt in a few days and I’m nervous for the after care. Thanks.

@Mezhgan I won't lie, it certainly seemed like he was. It's definitely a hard thing to go through but if you can remember that it's for his benefit, as hard as it is in the moment he will be thankful one day, and he won't remember the pain! Even like a day after he healed, it's gone. He doesn't have the ability to retain memories at this point yet! I hope this helps!

@Andrea thank you for your reply. His appointment changed and we finally did it a couple of days ago. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but certainly felt it. You’re exactly right, I kept reminding myself that it’s for his own benefit and he’s so young he won’t remember. It’s mainly me that struggles and makes it harder. And these oral exercises don’t make it easier lol

@Mezhgan it's definitely tough! Of all the moms I talked to, we were the only ones that stuck it out for the full 2 weeks - definitely recommend to keep at it, and always remember, it's for his best and you don't want to undo the surgery! Keep strong!
