What questions should I be asking at my follow up post miscarriage?

Hi ladies, I had my first FET in April which resulted in a pregnancy. Unfortunately I miscarried at 6 weeks. I have my follow up with my doctor to discuss next steps and was wondering if there were any questions I should be asking? For context all of my embryos were PGT tested. I had a D&C so we can test the embryo to see if any chromosomal abnormalities were missed in the initial testing. I had a medicated protocol where I took 2mg of estradiol 3x daily and 1ml PIO injections 1x daily. I also had a missed miscarriage where we heard the heartbeat and when we went to our next appointment there was none. I was not miscarrying on my own so no cramping or bleeding to indicate anything was wrong. Any insight would be so appreciated. Thank you 💕

Oh my goodness - I’m so sorry to hear that. Especially if you used normal PGT tested embryos. That would confuse and frustrate me to no end. I assume since you did IVF, you’ve done the whole hysteroscopy and confirmed your uterine tissue/lining all looked normal before you started your protocol. That would have been one of my questions. Think really the only results that might tell the story are from the testing done on the embryo. I heard sometimes that doing the biopsy for PGT can actually damage the embryo (though rare, but that’s still a risk) and that might be something else to ask? Everything you did basically set you up for success, so it’s really a confusing situation. Hope you get the answers you need!

@Elise thank you for your response ❤️ it’s been an emotional rollercoaster. My doctor was honestly very surprised that this happened considering I did have a hysteroscopy and our embryo was a normal PGT tested one. When we last spoke he said it really came down to the embryo and not anything to do with my body. My body wanted to stay pregnant and not miscarry. It was also shocking to hear a heartbeat and for it to then be gone, since the risk of miscarriage significantly decreases after a heartbeat is detected. The pregnancy was rocky from the beginning though, because my HCG was very low. But it did rise and continued to double. We feel like he (I was having a boy) was just struggling from the beginning. But they were honestly optimistic once there was a heartbeat. I’ll definitely ask if he thinks the PGT testing could have had any effect on the embryo. Thank you! I hope so too. I’m just so ready to try again

Have you had a RPL panel? If not, ask for one. I had two 6 week miscarriages. I learned I have a hereditary clotting disorder and my immune system attacks the baby. We’re doing IVF now but with a lot of meds.

@Nic I’ve never heard of it, so I don’t believe that I have it done. I’ll definitely bring it up with my doctor. I don’t think they would have done it yet since this was my first pregnancy and first loss. Thank you for the help ❤️ I hope that you have a successful round now that you have the clotting disorder under control!

@Gabriella You’re welcome💕. Please ask your doctor for one. You may have to push to get it since most doctors won’t do it until 3 miscarriages. I found out my dad had a clotting condition so that’s how I was able to get tested. It’s called a recurrent pregnancy loss panel. Thank you ❤️❤️ We’re doing a second retrieval and will transfer in Oct after my endo surgery Good luck and feel free to msg me if you have any questions.

I had 3 miscarriages in a row last year at 5-6 weeks (all PGT tested embryos). My embryos all had mediocre grading. Now I have a healthy one month old. What was done different besides the PIO and the estradiol was taking benadryl, blood thinner (Lovenox), and prednisone. This protocol was successful for me. You can ask what can be changed the next cycle to increase chances.

@Nic I’ll definitely bring it up with my doctor. Hopefully he will just order it and I won’t have to push too hard. At this point I don’t even mind paying out of pocket if I have to. If it can get me some answers I think it’s worth it! Wishing you so much sticky baby dust on your transfer in October ❤️❤️❤️ thank you, and if you ever want/need to chat my DMs are always open!

@Sherlie I’m so sorry you had to go through that, after going through one I can’t even imagine. Congratulations on your rainbow baby 🌈 that gives me so much hope. I’ve heard of adding those things to the protocol and it being successful for a lot of people. I’ll definitely bring it up with my doctor to see what he says. Thanks so much!

@Gabriella Thank you so much! ❤️
