Salaam. I had a question regarding naming the child

Walaikum Assalaam, Depends where you are living. I know it’s custom in Pakistan to give girls the first name of their father as last name. We didn’t follow this tradition so both my daughter and so have my husbands last name but even if we wanted to give our daughter my husbands first name, it wasn’t even possible in the country where we are living. We needed to use his official last name anyways.

و عليكم السلام You can do whatever you both agree on. Surnames actually mean nothing in Islaam In fact in Islaam you are known by your fathers name. ie Zahraa bint Ahmed - which means Zahraa the daughter of Ahmed So that would be the correct way to name your child if that makes sense x
