First haircut

My little girls 16 months, I'm a qualified hairdresser so I'm going to do my girls first hair cut but I'm not sure if it's too soon. A few people have said if I do a trim it helps it grow quicker etc not sure if that's true. When did yous get your babys first hair cut? A photo of the back which is quite long in the comments x

I would wait until she has a bit more hair for you to work with

Oh my heavens she is the cutest little thing

What a cutie pie 🥰

Definitely a myth, I have heard that lighter hair can take longer to come in, I’ve found that’s been generally true with my family. But after that I think it’s genetic and sufficient nutrients

We had our first haircut last month (he’s a boy though) and he’s also sixteen months. He has a mullet 🥲 I kind of hate it

Can I just how incredibly beautiful your daughter is 🥺✨ she’s so cuteeeeee

I think that’s an old wives tale. I’m waiting for a while. My hubs thinks I’m crazy, but I want to save a lock of hair from her first haircut.

@Cory aww I'm definitely going to keep a lock of my girls too 🥰 x

I've only cut her fringe a few times due to being too long, but I'll definitely hold off a bit longer 😊 thank yous everyone 🥰 x

@Leah thank you so much ❤️

@Emma omg that's amazing! Such beautiful hair too!

The cutting hair to make it grow in thing is a myth. I'm a hairdresser as well and am going to wait as long as possible to cut my LG hair. As long as you're not doing silly things to damage the hair it'll be fine for a while, heat etc

@Tasmin see I thought it was a myth as I'd never heard of it before lol

@Kayleigh so the myth started with adults hair mainly. Split ends travel up the hair strand and cause you to need more cut the longer you leave it. But they will also snap off. The myrh as we know it is because by cutting your hair you're cutting the split ends off and in turn stopping then breaking and making it seem like it grows quicker. The average speed for hair growth is about a quarter inch every month, obviosuly that is not a definite thing and everyone's hair is different and grows at different rates

Yea as a hair with a little girl, now almost 4, I’d wait until it looks like a sweet mullet. Let the front cover the ears. Then just cut the back and wait for the front to catch up. I’ve done 3 or 4 cuts on my girl and we’re finally pretty much even but she keeps getting new waves of hair coming in.

I love shaving them as babies so it cuts off all the thin wispy baby hairs and what does grow back is more even and seemingly thicker (“seemingly” as in its been cut blunt across) but at that age yes I would totally cut off maybe 1/2in and then again in a couple months. I also shave my boys hair lol I learnt how myself 😂 (he’s 3.5 now I do it for him monthly)

My daughter is also 16 months and not planning a cut at all for a while yet. She does have some stray fringe bits which i might just take a slight end off to keep it out her eyes soon though. Its very long at the back/sides though :-)

My boy is 18 months and I haven’t cut his yet - not going to do it for a good while, I’d imagine.
