UK mums- what happens if you go into labour before your planned C-section?

I’m going to have an elective C-section, due to the births in my family taking 3-4 days naturally and involving complications. My mum and I both nearly died as she wasn’t given an emergency C-section during a 74 hour labour (I’m an only child). So I’m definitely requesting one. I’m just a bit worried that if I was to go into labour before my planned c-section date (I know they usually schedule it at 38-39 weeks) would they still perform the C-section? There is no way I want to risk giving birth naturally given my family history.

I had my first daughter via csection early due to blood pressure. Currently pregnant with second baby & have a planned csection which they have booked in for 4 days before my due date. I have spoken to a few people as i was worried its so close to due date & going into natural labour. I was told its normal for it to be scheduled on the 39th week & if i go into natural labor then i can still have a csection but it will be classed as an emergency csection rather than elective 🤷‍♀️ x

@Candice Oh fab thank you, as long as they still do it I’m golden. Whether they call it emergency or elective I’m happy. Best of luck with your second C-section 🥰 x

I have two friends who were due planned caesareans and went into labour early, one in April (2 days before my planned section) and one last week with twins. Both of them had a caesarean within a few hours after their waters broke. Also there’s 4 categories of caesarean, with 4 being elective and 1 being “threat to life” emergency. In this case I’d imagine it would be a category 3 or 2 x

I was told if I go into labour before my c section to ring the labour ward and they’ll have you come in and schedule you in for an emergency c section (they said they’d call it an emergency but it’s not technically an emergency, they just move you forward!) Xx

Yeah it just changes from a cat 4 to a cat 3 👍 they wouldn't force a vaginal birth if you're booked in for a planned c-sec

I went into labour a week prior to my elective section date. I just went to triage and I was put on emergency list. The most beautiful thing ever 💗 they will still honour c section!
