Teaching Tagalog

Hi, moms! Has anyone been teaching their kids Tagalog, and if so, how? I would love for my son (almost 2) to grow up speaking the language. Tough because although my husband and I are fluent, we don't speak Tagalog consistently with my son. And daycare is purely English. Any tips? Is there a Ms. Rachel version in tagalog? 🤣 (Edit to say: I am based in NY if anyone wants to connect!)

I'm not bilingual, but I wish my parents taught me their languages. I have a friend who speaks Polish with her little one. What she did with her toddler was speak school and friends things in English, but home and family things in Polish, until the vocabulary grew. It seems to work well. Persevere with it. Nurseries seem to welcome different languages, cultures and religions (in UK anyway).

Yes, i teach my kids tagalog and ilocano. My husband and parents speak to them all time. We just talk to them in tagalog and ilocano… we also have them watch filipino cartoons that we used to watch when we were kids.

I wish I could teach my 2 year old fluent Tagalog. I know words and phrases and that’s about it, my parents spoke to us in English growing up. He only knows his numbers and random words like milk and rice lol. Based in Bergen County, NJ is anyone would like to connect and chat or have play dates :)
