Abnormal morphology

Hello! My partner has recently had sperm analysis all the numbers are good apart from he has 98% abnormal morphology. I just wondered if anyone else has had this and any tips on if this can be improved or if ivf is our only route x

Morphology can be improved over time with vitamins and diet! I think only 5% is the “normal” threshold for normal morphology anyway (the number surprised me!). I seem to remember L-carnitine, high vitamin C and coQ10 help with good quality sperm!

I put my husband on the supplement and lifestyle recommendations from the book ‘It starts with the egg’ and his morphology went from 1% to 6%! Supplements, reduced booze & caffeine, stopped putting his plastic water bottles in the dishwasher, kept balls cool, he was cycling a bit less due to a knee injury (he’d never have done that otherwise and I’m sure hours a week on the bike can’t be good!)

Takes 3 months to regenerate sperm so that’s the time frame you can hope to see change

@CLL thank you for this! He’s cutting booze, doesn’t really drink caffeine so that’s one thing less I have to battle with! Can you remember what the supplement was? He’s got the wellmans for reproductive health! Xx

@Jessica wow I didn’t realise it was only 5% makes it sound easier to get to 😂 I’ve got him some of the wellmans reproductive health ones, I’ll have to have a look at what they actually include in them xx

@Tasha he was on a whole cocktail! Needed those little day of the week pill case things! From memory: male multivit, CoQ10, Alpha lipoid acid, Vit C, D & E

@Tasha it’s worth taking high strength added supplements in addition to multivitamins too as they only contain the bare minimum really. But yeah, I was very surprised! I guess that’s why there’s millions of them if only a few thousand are actually half decent 😅 So he’s not far off normal really!

My partner has 1 percent morphology. We've been on so many vitamins he's never been interested in alcohol doesn't touch caffeine. Good weight decent diet. We've tried cool packs. Unfortunately ours hasn't improved in 2 years.. 3 years ttc and no luck for us Unfortunately but could be other things playing their part too who knows

Procieve tablet version helped my husbands more than wellman. He tried the sachets but to be honest they were hard work and didn’t improve any better than the tablets.

My partner has between 1 and 0 % morphology depending on the sample. We were advised coq10, do some reading to find out the recommended dose or ask your fertility doctor. My husband's sperm issue is due to previous medical issues though so we haven't found it has helped his morphology unfortunately.

My husband had between 0 and 1% morphology and we conceived naturally a month after getting the results, and a year after ttc. He had made some unrelated lifestyle changes like healthier diet, quitting smokings, cutting back on drinking, and avoiding hot baths while we were ttc. But definitely don't give up hope, anything's possible.

My husband also have very low morphology 1%. Already had one ivf failed cycle please guide me too. Really devestated
