Normally it would just cover you unless when giving your statement during the application process you explicitly and repeatedly state it's to cover the children as well. Some judges will only do it to cover you. If you ask for it to cover the children it can trigger what is called a child act hearing, which some IDVA's would advise against depending on your situation. Best bet would be to get yourself an IDVA through your local domestic abuse services and they'll be able to help you find answers to all your questions and guide you along the way.
