Call and speak to the nurse at the pediatric office.
He probably has a virus or multiple viruses, but definitely call your pediatrician for advice. They will usually tell you how many wet diapers they need to be having so you know if he is dangerously dehydrated from vomiting, as well as what symptoms of an emergency would look like with those symptoms. Is he able to keep down milk, water or Pedialyte?
If he's not keeping down milk and he's not having wet nappies, take him in. Dehydration is the biggest risk. He needs to be having at least 5 wet nappies in 24 hours.
I would call your pediatrician, when my daughter was in childcare she was literally sick every other week with something, but that's because there body is not immune to all the new germs.
It's probably normal but in babies, it's always best to get them checked if fevers and anything going out in a nonnormal Capacity but the emergency room is needed take him to his Dr or urgent care.
Absolutely no judgement on how he's fed, but breastfed babies can sometimes avoid a hospital visit because breastmilk is so easy to digest. If he is breastfed, offer small frequent feeds. Time how long between a feed and a vomit. Eg if he feeds then vomits 10 mins later, he's got some in him. If he feeds and vomits immediately, that's a bad sign. But yeah if he can't keep down formula, and it's been like a day, then take him in.
Ah Im so sorry, those first few months of daycare are brutal. If he cannot keep anything down, take him to urgent care next to a hospital with an emergency dep and urgent care can evaluate him and give him some medicine to help keep things down. Then you can always get sent to emergency if he is still having trouble they can give him iv fluids
@Jen He hasn’t kept down milk, but he did tolerate some Pedialyte. I’ll call in about the diapers. Thank you!
Have you given medicine for the fever? Is it coming down? Is he able to drink formula or breastmilk? I dealt with a lot of sickness with my 2 kids. If not improving on day 2-3 I usually take to doctor to be sure it’s nothing serious. Sometimes it can take up to 5 days for baby to feel better. Sometimes they’re better quicker.
@Chandelle you're welcome! I'm glad he's able to tolerate something. Hydration is the most important thing. I'm so sorry your first experience with daycare sickness is so bad -- stomach viruses are so hard with babies 😭
When my little was sick at 4months, I called the pediatricians’ office and got advice to see how LO does through the night. Looking at wet diapers(at least 3-4 then). Labored breathing, and milk in-take. I’d call, but if no wet diapers I’d let them know because that is a sign for dehydration, and is the worse for our little babies. Hope things get better mama
Bring him to ER
He likely has rota virus, keep him comfortable and offer milk/fluids and easy foods he likes. Even though it looks like everything is coming up, still offer. If he looks very lethargic, fever not coming down with Tylenol, not peeing well, dehydrated take him to your pediatrician or urgent care
Thank you to all of you! I had a video visit with peds and took him to urgent care. It’s an average virus that’s just wreaking havoc on him, but he’s coming into the other side of it.
I would call your pediatrician and/ or triage with a nurse on symptoms to see if you should bring baby in.
